Drift Safari - V86. vvti 1uzfe. hmmmmm

Postby bmx269 » Mon Feb 25, 2013 3:28 pm

It has been a long damn time since I have updated on here, so here goes. After killing my last built sr20 at Seattle FD 2011, I said I was done with sr20's. The last one was caused by a broken fuel pump. Stupid causes are always the most painful.

So I bought this:
Image
A VVTI 1uzfe.
Put a w58, Aluminum flywheel, ACT 6 puck clutch, custom exhaust, Haltech Platinum Sport 1000, and way too much time into this car. I had a baby girl come into my life last Sept, so the build process was slow. But no big deal, I kept on trucking.

Here are some of the pics of the 1uz build:

exhaust

wiring started, also a shot of the modified cruise control to bypass drive by wire

and then a video of how is sounded before the tune. The subframe was not dropped, the tranny tunnel was just pounded a bit more then for the SR. Fun.

We got some time and got the Haltech tuned, took it to a Dyno Dynamics dyno in Richmond.

291hp and 300ftlbs of torque, in a 2200lb car is going to be great. The dip was smoothed out after this pic was taken, with some of the vvti timing adjustment. Overall the 4 litre engine performed excellently.

and for comparison, here is Ian's VK56 on the same dyno when it was NA. Pretty close power considering the engine is 15 years older tech and 1.6L less displacement.

Took it to the drift event I run called CellBlock D on Feb 17th, and here are some pics vids.

Another video. Just some wheel perspective.

Sorry I can't embed them for some reason.

I do not have pictures of the engine mounts, I could take some.
I am using this flywheel: http://stores.boldperformance.com/-strs ... Detail.bok
I am using a 7m ACT 6puck unsprung with extreme pressure plate clutch.
As for the throttle body, I am not using the drive by wire, I modified the cruise control half throttle side to open fully. Was pretty simple.
I am not using the stock ecu, so I can not tell you if it would work.

It is my car on T3's site, I am the guy who built it. :) The vvti 1uzfe has a better intake with variable length runners, which provides the best of both ITB / long runner setups.

Wheel specs? Origin fenders right? Indy Speed is really cranking out some crazy cars lately.

I love Indy Speed, they are a great sponsor, my tuner, and the fabricator of some of the swap parts, I did not have them build my car, as I enjoy the challenge.

My wheels are Work Meister S1 16x8.5-6 front and 16x9.5-16 rear, on a mk1 supra rear end. I am changing to Work Meister CR01 15x8.5-12 f and 15x9.5-25 wheels soon.

This was the old engine, S14 Sr20, with goodies, 347whp at 16lbs:

I should've known haha. I saw your car on google and I was like Mann beautiful. I was in love with the color a scheme you have and the fact you are sideways making big smokes makes it all to better. But how's the weight of the engine on the car? Does it make it uber heavy ? But I know with all that power it's shouldn't be much of a problem lol. Loving the n/a over the turbo ?

The engine is lighter then my sr20 setup was, and the weight is not at all noticeable.

Lovely 1UZFE choice. The raw look of our T(rueno) Hatch has that "natural" appeal.

I did not space the crossmember, as I have a strong belief that the chassis needs to keep the suspension geometry the way it can be controlled.

Engine: 800
Trans: 100
Flywheel: 600
Clutch: 400
Clutch Slave: 50
W58 Adapter: 250
Driveshaft: 450
ECU: 1800 retail
Rad: 350
Fuel Pump: 150
Headers and Exhaust: 1300ish
And that is off the top of my head, I am sure prices are more in some areas, and less in others, and that is not all the parts. I went on the pricey side of things, but saved by doing my own wiring, and installation. I have also received some sponsor help on some of the parts, these prices are not reflected.

I wonder if you modded the cross member engine mounts, or modded the trans tunnel as well, as well as which throw out bearing you used.

So I got in a serious crash at Evergreen Speedway about 9 weeks ago. Broke my back, and killed this car. I will be trying to find an affordable replacement to transfer all the unbroken parts over to. The engine bay is gone, including engine. I am alive and that is what counts.

Wish it still looked like this:
