K24a2 AE86

So I lost my thread from the old C4ag

I'm working on a k24a2 acura tsx engine swap into my AE86. I've had this car for about 3 years and I was getting bored with the engine. I was really interested in the F20C out of the S2000 but after seeing so many people swapping out their F20/22s for K20/24s I noticed that the S2k engines don't have VTC. After looking at cost, I could see that the engine was going to be significantly cheaper. I could get s2000 transmissions for cheap so I decided to go the route that some of the S2k guys did and use the K series engine and many of their parts to make the s2k transmission work with the k series engine.

So Far:

I have a 2006 K24a2 TSX engine with 60,000 mi. Pulled it out of a crashed car for about $800.
I have all the wiring harness for the engine/dash/front ECU/EVAP canister etc..
I have a Celica Supra rear axle with a 3.7:1 R/P that will probably be getting an LSD soon. I was going to drop it in to offset the extra weight to the front. Figured that would be better than the SR5 rear end that I have on the car now.
I have a F20C transmission and adapter plate and flywheel. (I would have liked to have the F22C Transmission because of the taller 5th and 6th gear but if the gearing is the way I like it, I may just leave it alone.)

I would like to use as much of the original harness as possible so if any of you guys here have a lot of experience with the Wiring in the SR5 that would be helpful. I don't know a lot of intricate things about the wiring. Only simple things really. Also should I go with a GTS tank and use an in tank pump or can I just use an external pump with the original SR5 tank?

I will add pictures soon of what I have done so far...

The k20a is a tall motor. The k20a2 is even taller. With the k20a you have to trim the hood supports to be able to close the hood. the k24a2 will stick through the hood. If thats what you are into the cool. But I would rather be able to keep a secret about what's really under the hood. I've been kicking tires on this same idea but with a K20a2. I realistic can't afford to do it so I'm backing out on the idea.

I was toying with the idea of doing a K20 also. I really like the fact that it is squared so it can be revved pretty high. It helps Ballade Sports has the entire kit to convert a K series to RWD, thought it is a bit pricey. I guess the concern I had was how much clearance there is with the crossmember.

I would love to swap in a k20a in my corolla in the future. I do like the f20/22 tho. Maybe ina few years the swap will be more common and the price of completing the swap will drop

finally getting started on it. I'm getting the last bit of parts together before I pull the old motor.

I got the clutch/flywheel stuff together so I'm bolting up engine and trans. I have to mock up engine mounts and get the driveshaft made. I also have to make some fuel lines. I hear the sr5 lines are tiny. But I should start the heavy work this weekend.

If the engine sticks up too much, I'm probably just going to cut the valve cover to clear. I don't want my hood popping up.

They're coming...I might just record it on video doing the swap. Pictures say a thousand words. A movie a says a million.
