I’ve wanted to share my hachi to club4ag for an ongoing seven years now.
There were long periods of time that all I could do was admire what parts I had and how the car looked while taking pictures every year. I moved some parts around from another hachi I have and upgraded a few things, all just minor things here and there.
Throughout the years I’ve tried to keep it physically clean and internally healthy. My goal was to keep it pleasing to the eye and reliable to drive.
Many of these pictures I have taken are throughout the years and I wanted to create a timeline for everyone to follow and see my progression with the car. Little by little…
This is the best way to share my passion for AE86’s and document my build for friends and family to see.
Lets start from the beginning...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Pretty sweet deal. Came with two extra wheel sets and more parts. Only downfall was that it didn’t run. I was told the harness needed some work and pistons were seized. I didn’t care since I bought it as a parts car and just the parts alone were more than the value of the GT-S!
So the car sat in my NorCal driveway for a year while I worked down South.
I had a shop rebuild the engine later that year and fix the wiring to work with the JDM MAP setup.
Tech2Motorsports got it running for me. These are the results:
- Rebuilt head.
- Head work was $450 with additional $450 for removal/install of cylinder head.
- Painted head silver.
- Painted block black.
- Installed new gasket kit - paid $185.
- 190 psi across all cylinders.
- JDM AE86 MAP engine harness to work with dash harness. Paid $150 for the actual JDM MAP harness. Paid $150 for custom wiring to dash harness.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
February 26, 2008 - So I began driving my rebuilt GT-S around town while the BT20V hachi rested in the garage begging to get finished…

May 11, 2010 – Home for a few weeks. Previously, the car sat in the garage the entire time I was away from home. I had my cousin take it out every month to keep the fluids moving. Battery stayed on a trickle charger for a while but got neglected. Took it around town to dust off the cobwebs.

July 4, 2012 - Painted my J-blood side skirts in glossy black. My only option to put these on were to use self-tapping screws. I decided that wasn’t going to work for me so I opted out with putting these on until I find a better option.

October 13, 2012 – Speedometer had never worked so I decided to replace it with a new one from Cabe Toyota. No more than two miles down the road it got all chewed up again. I think its because the grease in the speedometer cable was gunked up creating friction and making the plastic gear work too hard. Oh well, my GPS works just as well to tell me my speed.

October 28, 2012 – Spent a few days scrubbing and degreasing the T50. It had never been cleaned before. No grinds at all. Best T50 I’ve ever had.

June 11, 2013 – I noticed the idle had issues and would nearly overheat. I spent some time diagnosing and buying new parts.
Cleaned IACV and adjusted TPS with feeler gauges and multimeter. Huge difference in throttle and idle. But something else was still wrong. I decided not to put anymore money into it since, sensibly, there’s better options out there that I would rather spend my money on.
Cleaned IACV and TPS:

A few years back in 2005 I heard about swapping the F20C motor into the AE86 but it was never more than a dream for me. I had went to Super Autobacs and picked up the Best Motoring DVD that had T3’s F20 powered AE86 and Tsuchiya’s impression with it…
June 13, 2013 – My dream finally came true.
After convincing my family, I made the trip to Los Angeles to pick up a deal of a lifetime. A plug and play F20C turbo swap from Pro Drifter Carlos Estrella. It just needed a few bits and pieces to make it complete.
I left Phoenix around 6pm and reached LA around 10pm. Loaded everything up and arrived in Yuma around 4am. I put together an engine hoist I purchased at Harbor Freight during the trip up and placed everything into the garage. Left Yuma around 8am and drove back to Phoenix by 11am! The thought of having all these amazing parts in the FJ kept me up during the entire drive. Didn’t need coffee or energy drinks! ☺
Packed up the FJ Cruiser with the F20C motor, tranny, and a bunch of other goodies…

Didn’t have much time to take pics of all the parts. I was trying to get back on the road that same morning.

Gave the 4A-GE a proper good bye that day…
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
July 4, 2013 – Laid out all the F20 parts so I could inventory everything. The following pictures are not in any particular order. This is how it was all given to me… in pieces. I just wanted to take a pic of each item so I could show everybody the part rather than just a boring list. Plus, I wanted to see what I have before I tuck it away in the engine bay and under the car to rarely be seen again. There were some extra parts I received from the seller that were given to me to help pay for those few things needed for the swap. Particularly, bolts, gaskets, intake manifold, and clutch fork, etc.
So let’s begin…
