Maybe i'm not old enough to see the appeal in having a car like that, and wasting time restoring a stock car to stock, and having zero fun. Terms like Restoration and Resale value are for people who are too old to have any fun, and just want to remember the "good ole days"

I cant wrap my head around the idea of a car being "too clean" or "too original" to build/track. Personally, i would never consider building/tracking a car that wasnt clean and original to start with.

For the most part I agree with you. Cars should be enjoyed and driven and anything that makes them more enjoyable or drivable should be a good thing.
In my book there are exceptions though.
There are also to different reasons that often but not always walk hand in hand.
The more rare something gets the more valuable it will become. I doubt our AW11's, AE86s and such will ever hit a comparable status to say a 1932 Studebaker President but I also doubt anyone thought that about their car in the 30s.
Even if the value doesn't increase at a financially profitable rate there is still something to be said about having an all stock original car and that value increases as it get's harder to find a car in that condition.
If you came across a chopped and channeled 32 president it would probably only be worth a few grand to maybe a couple tens of thousands if it was pretty sweet. The same car with low miles and all original would be worth a stupid amount of money as well as emotional and sentimental value to someone.
In 20 years finding a Cherry AE86 will be pretty tough especially with it's recent revival. If he turns this car into a race car in 20 years it will be a haggard old race car worth little more than it's weight in scrap metal.

I respect both paths but the more rare and hard to find in good condition a car becomes the more I lean toward keeping it stock or at least in a form that will keep it out of harms way and easy to take back to original if that's what you decided to do.

I think you're doing the right thing. I dont understand how someone cant understand why you wouldn't build something nice into a race/ track car. "wow its perfect!... well lets gut it and rip on it as hard as we can on a race track til it breaks." lol its nice, nothing wrong with wanting it to stay nice. there is enjoyment in that i think. not to mention there are plenty of other 86's out there that are in much worse shape...

You've got a great shot at having something that few here can ever attest to. With that said do what you wish with it, but understand that what you have can be over appreciated past its actually functionality. Drive it, maintain/wrench on it, enjoy it. Cars have four wheels that want to move. We don't own large scale model kits here.

*EDIT* Just saw the date of the last post. Which way you headed on this one?

Good find, but I would swap or upgrade engine because we're in 2014 can't live with stock low hp. Easily swap original engine back in if decide to sell.

I have been thinking about a swap after getting this one out, wasnt to bad and a first try for me. This is probably all over the boards, havent really looked yet, but what is the biggest engine that will fit without mod's to engine mounts? and without spending a fortune..

I think a lot of us don't think of stock as nice looking because we're too accustomed to relating stock with "beat."
However, stock in nice condition can sometimes be even cooler than modified.

probably the most bang for your buck is going f20c it'd cost probably around 7k+ maybe less. idk depending on how much you're willing to wait looking for the right price.

but tbh don't ask questions about what to do with it. pretend the world of c4ag or anything doesnt matter. its your car do with it as you please everyone here is so stuck on all these particular ways a car SHOULD be when the only thing that matters is that its your car and no one elses. thats just my 2 cents tho.

good luck with whatever you do! I'm very jealous.

Wow that's looking pretty good now! Are the center console plastics missing or did you just remove them to fix something?

Keep up the good work. :D
