Row52 - Saving junkyard Corollas

Postby TD86 » Wed Aug 07, 2013 10:21 am

Okay, for some odd reason, while I'm unable to buy (nor drive hehe) a car, I always find myself looking at the classifieds where hopefully maybe a person of the elderly is willing to part ways with their meticulously kept AE86, not knowing what they have and selling for a beautiful $800, maybe lower?! lol, but I also look at a junkyard listing website, Row52.

Most of the junkyards on this website in California are all up north D: At minimum they're 3 hours away from where I am, and I'm pretty sure my parents wouldn't want to bring their kid for a 6-7 hour round trip just to see some old J-tin, where he'd be putting all his pocket money into if I somehow acquired it.

Anyone save any from the junkyard? It pains me to see nice examples that probably aren't rusted through that have potential, and can still be saved, go to waste.. I think what sparked this was what would have been Yuri's epic rescue of a GT-S build log lol

Maybe those examples are stripped by now, and maybe some people don't want to dive into a moneypit, but I still don't like how those are just sitting in a junkyard xD

VIN codes starting JT2AE86 are an SR5, you can see the drum brake rear end in the first car's link. But it says it has a twin cam, so that would be a swap or a misprint.

Yeah you guys got all sorts of stuff in Japan lol. We got 2: SR5 and GTS. All SR5's have drums, all GTS' have rear discs in America.

Such a shame.. that silver GTS doesnt look too bad aside from some seriously weathered paint. You lucky west coasters..still have yet to even find an SR5 out here :/

Even my rescue didn't work, the GTS got crushed while the paperwork was going through, despite it being set in the holding yard.
