My wife's Mitsubishi Endeavor can return 22hwy and makes 225hp/255tq. Just about every V6 powered newer car meets those criteria. Camry, Fusion, Accord, BMW, Mercedes, and VW or Audi with the 2.0T makes 200+hp. All turbo Subarus like WRX, Legacy GT, Outback and Forester turbo. Heck I think even the STi gets pretty good mpg.

And I don't see a Q45 getting 20mpg city. That's a pretty heavy car. GS300 yeah definitely.

Oh now that's a whole nother bucket of fish heads!

99-2000 Ford Contour SVT - 200hp v6, mine got around 22mpg back in the day
BMW M3 or M5 - you'll either blow your budget or get a junk one
6G75 Mitsubishi Galant - I know they are newer, but they have terrible depreciation

Any FWD AE Corolla or AT Celica with the 7A-FE engine. In decent condition, of course as these models have decent torque with decent fuel consumption.

depends what you wanna do with it? try to track it? drift it? carry groceries? transport children?

still a VERY vague question to ask.

go with a lexus ls400 or gs300. it can do all of the above quickly, comfortably, and stylishly.

How about an E36 BMW M3. 240hp, it's fast, handles great, stops great, and gets 20-28mpg.

That's what I said. Budget of $5,000 is the only drawback for an E36 M3.
