Panhard bar / lateral bar DIY
Panhard bar / lateral bar DIY
Got my parts in for my DIY Panhard bar / lateral done.
-2458K182 Ball Joint Rod End 3/4"-16 Lh (you just need one of these) $17.36 each Mcmaster.com
-2458K181 Ball Joint Rod End 3/4"-16 Rh (you see a trend starting ) $17.36 each Mcmaster.com
-6381K121 Bronze 3/4"-1/2" bushing (you'll just need one) $1.64 each Mcmaster.com
-91034134-27 (27")ALUM TUBE FOR 3/4" HEIMS (you'll need just one) $14.95 each Speedwaymotors.com
**These are your choice since it's just stuff you can get at your local hardware store and probably be cheaper but I'll list it up anyways
-1756047-LH JAM NUTS 3/4", STEEL 6/PACK (you just need one per side) $3.95 Speedwaymotors.com
-1756047-RH JAM NUTS 3/4", STEEL 6/PACK (ditto^^) $3.95 Speedwaymotors.com
I put the fitting on my drill and used some sand paper to get a perfect fit, took less then a min to do
done
if you are using a celica suprarearend, you need to extend the bar another 1/2 inchs
I also finally finished the Panhard bar/ lateral bar. So the DIY set up does not fit a celica supra rearend just FYI for anyone else wanting to do this. I had to order a extra extension from K and H an local store here. K and H metals supply part number 917020044 3/4-16 alloy linkage adjuster Then grind down the metal around the bolt "it had a little ring around it" so I could get the bar to slip over it.

Re: Panhard bar / lateral bar DIY
Is this bar adequate enough(rightsized) to adjust for a extremely lowered ae86? was the bar the right length? Thanks!
Re: Panhard bar / lateral bar DIY

Re: Panhard bar / lateral bar DIY
If your doing this for a celica/supra rear end. Note the ebay link i posted above. instead of (1) LH and (1) RH Ball joint rod end you will need (2) RH Ball joint rod ends due to the the pitch of the adjuster. I recieved my parts and i'm waiting on a RH one right now. The bar is stout and worth the time to get on your own to put together. The pics marley posted don't do the bar justice on how nice the bar is. I'll post some pics here later
Re: Panhard bar / lateral bar DIY
So everything is put together and just need to install on the car. Here is the difference in dia../thinkness of stock bar compared to the aftermarket one. Just remember if you get the adjuster you will need (2) RH ball joint rod ends.
Here is a close up of the joint ends

Re: Panhard bar / lateral bar DIY
I was just curious as you used the regular zinc-plated steel vs. aluminum or stainless (which cost 5x as much) how are they doing against corrosion? i'm just curious how these would hold up or how they are holding up to road debris, salt, dirt, sand, etc.? I'm interested in making one myself versus the $150+ price tags on other products, but just curious on your expectancy or longevity of the ball joints themselves.
Thanks
Thanks
Re: Panhard bar / lateral bar DIY
Haven't used it yet due to the fact I'm building this car as a track car. I'm sure these will do very well for what I need it for. Once I have the car up and running ill give some feedback of how it performs during the season.

the brass fitting.
Re: Panhard bar / lateral bar DIY
What did you use as to center the heim joints on the car? Washers or spacers or are none needed?
Re: Panhard bar / lateral bar DIY
Tried doing this on a GTS rear end. The hole in the 3/4" heim joint won't fit on the axle side bolt which is .80" diameter.
Re: Panhard bar / lateral bar DIY
Bump for a good thread and apparently you can buy it as a kit(for the panhard bar)
http://speedwaymotors.com/Speedway-Panhard-Bar-Kit,59078.html
Is it a similar concept for the 4 link bars? And if so, does anyone have the measurements?

Anyone find a heim joint that would fit the GTS rear end mounting point?
Re: Panhard bar / lateral bar DIY
.05" smaller, have you tried drilling it out slightly, or using sandpaper on a bit and sanding .05" ? might work

Re: Panhard bar / lateral bar DIY
For the Celica Supra I got a 29" bar from Speedwaymotors but the issues is the 3/4" hiem is too small for the diff side. The Diff Pan hard bar stud is 15/16" so you'll need to dremel the Hiem joint out abit. They do not sell a 15/16" hiem joint anywhere. I will post some pics of my set up next week.

Just got the kit from speedway motors and brass bushing. Just also wanted to know about the spacing as well.
Any pics?
Thanks in advance
