F/S 1986 Hatch, unfinished project in NJ - JDM bumpers etc

Postby pandafb » Mon Sep 08, 2014 11:19 am

Hi Everyone,

I know this forum is primarily West Coast, but I figured I would post this here as well as the local forums. Please read the description and what’s included before jumping to the pics and saying my price is too high :) Up for sale is my 1986 SR5 Hatch project. I got this back in 2011 with intentions of restoring the body, and putting a Rotary engine in it, got partway through but got busy with other projects. This has been sitting for quite a while now and it’s time to sell it. Hopefully someone will see it as the diamond in the rough that I did and complete it! Please note, there is NO engine or transmission in here, it was use for another project.

The underside of the car is actually very clean, not a ton of rust on the “frame” but as you can see in the pics, it has the typical quarter panel rust starting. Also, the driver side floor pan has quite a bit of rust as well. I believe the clutch master cyl was leaking fluid inside, which ate the paint and caused the rust to start. Also as you can see I stripped all the sound deadening out of the car. There is no carpet, or seats, but the rest of the interior is all in plastic bins and most of it is in good shape.

A few things I should mention – the windshield is broken, will need to be replaced, and the hatch is quite dented up. Previous owner said that he was backing out of a garage with the hatch open and it hit the door. It shuts, but not very tightly. There doesn’t seem to be any other body damage from that incident.

The transmission tunnel was cut to fit the rotary in there, and the cross member was modified as well (I have a stock one I’ll include if you want to go back to stock). The trans cross member is gone, you’ll need to find one of those. To get everything to fit I had to trim the steering rack where the lines go into the pinion housing. As such you would not be able to re-power this steering rack, it could be used as it sits manual, but if you want power steering another rack would need to be found.

The body will obviously need work, but it’s a solid foundation. Here’s a list of additional parts that would be included with the car:

-A very clean, rust free pair of fenders to replace the ratty ones on the car
-JDM Kouki Trueno rear bumper/brackets (used, installed on the car)
-JDM Kouki Trueno front bumper/brackets/turn signals (all brand new, stored in my shop, no pics at the moment)
- TRD replica wing (fiberglass, pretty decent but would need some minor body working to look 100%)
-Tokico HP/blue shocks (used, installed on car, previous owner told me only a few thousand miles, can’t confirm)
-Esplinger (spelling??) springs - again, used, were on the car when I got it
-14” Supra wheels (obviously used, have a 5th one as well)
-Momo steering wheel hub (no wheel, that went to another project, but the hub is stuck on there, so you get it! Lol. Also have the stock Sr5 wheel)
- GTS body wiring harness and gauge cluster. The Sr5 harness is still in the car, but this is boxed up and I believe all complete, but I never looked that closely at it since I didn’t get that far into the project

As you can see I had intentions of doing a big build on this, but life has other plans I guess. The car has a clean NJ title in my name.
I’m asking $2500. Obviously there is much work to be done here, but the JDM bumpers, TRD style wing and shocks/springs are worth easily $1500 not to mention the GTS wiring and such. I would much prefer this all go as a bundle to someone who is going to turn this back into a car and not part it. Below are a few pics, please post here or email pandafb@gmail.com for more info. I’m located in Morris County NJ
Thanks for looking!
-Sean

I dunno if $2.5k is worth it but GLWS

Thanks. Hopefully I can get somewhere around there, those JDM parts were expensive! Finding a shell that doesn't have at least some rust around here is tough too, this one is still salvagable :)

Been some interest in the JDM parts (no surprise!) but nothing in the car or the rest of it. I don't really want to part this, but I probably will if no one is interested in buying it all at once. I'm open to reasonable offers...
