20v Oil pan replacement

Postby Tall_Mike » Tue Oct 22, 2013 7:37 pm

Are there any oil pans available in the US that fit a silvertop? I'm thinking a stock steel pan from a mid 90's 4A-FE would work.

I've also heard the two piece pan from the mid 90's 7A's work as well.

Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks!

4A-FE pan should be the ticket, but I would ask Dan, as he knows more about those than I do.

The 7A pan is provisioned to bolt to a C-series tansmission. This pattern does not line up with the T50, so if you're doing this in an FR you'll either need to hack it down to use the original engine to trans braces or go without.

I use a 4AFE oil pan on my 4AGE 20V Blacktop without problems.

The two piece aluminum pan with steel sump from a 7AFE engine will definitely fit as well.
Get the pickup for the 7AFE along with the pan as depth is slightly different.

I researched this a while back for a Silvertop into a Lotus Europa.

Not true. I have a 7AFE bottom end bolted to a T50 with no issues or modifications.

burdickjp's statement is completely true.
The 7A pan will fit the motor and clear the trans. You will not be able to use the bolts that bolt the 7A pan to the trans. It also doesn't line up perfectly.
If you don't mind those issues then it would work.

Is the aluminum oil pan extension supposed to be load bearing? And where does it not line up?

Yes. On the AE86 there are braces on either side of the block which bolt to the engine and the trans. On the AE111 there is a single aluminum brace which goes under the oil pan. On 7AFEs the oil pan serves this function.

Butchered the original pan on my Silver Top trying to gain some ground clearance on a Lotus 7 replica. Replaced it with a 4AFE pan. Perfect fit.

Will the 4afe oil pan work on 4age 16v block and oil pump?

If the 4A-FE oil pan is for an '88-'92 FWD, then yes.
