i had a big port engine with t-vis that starved oil i hate myself and burnt seals.
now i have a red top small port non t-vis swapped in, i see on Bill Sherwood's stock 4age page that the big port engine came with different intake/exhaust cams than those of the small port, hrm hrm

can i take out the cams from my big port head and put them on my small port head so it lifts higher and longer so i have more power and would be cool hybrid

also i read terms like EVO BBDC EVC ATDC and VO BTDC IVC ABDC
could someone refer me a good place to learn what it means?

i also have adjustable cam pulleys for both intake and exhaust cams
im new to engine inside... but im willing to learn

any advice would be very appreciated

Yes you can put the earlier cams in...... they may, or may not provide you with more power. Why? Because their difference is very small. The early cam is open 240 degrees of a possible 720, while the newer cam is open 232 degrees of a possible 720. There is a bit more lift to the earlier cam, but an unported head can't really utilize the extra lift well. So, in the end... you might see 1 or 2 more hp.



EVO - exhaust valve open (the instant, or degree the valve opens)
BBDC - before bottom dead center
EVC - exhaust valve closing (the instant, or degree the valve closes)
ATDC - after top dead center
BTDC - before top dead center
ABDC - after bottom dead center
IVC - intake valve closing (the instant, or degree the valve closes)
that leaves VO, which is actually IVO - intake valve open (the instant, or degree the valve opens)

It is my understanding that all motors went to the smaller cam around the time the GZE came out so 87-88ish.
This would mean that later LPs also have the smaller cams.
I would compare measurements with a degree wheel before doing anything.
Even then I would only do this mod if the valve covers are already off and it will be an easy swap. The gains will not be worth much effort at all. Hopefully you have enough shims between the two heads to shim them right. Otherwise you are talking about more time and money for work that would be lucky to be noticeable on a dyno.

Personally I would skip the step and save up for some cams that will actually do something.

ok i save my money for cams.. i want my 4age to kick ass and im sure it will end up horribly if i start "playing with things" eh
264 cams are good to work with stock ecu\injectors? good
i have read that if i exceed 8mm in lift i will need more money (would need upgraded valve springs).. this true?

ok anyways i leave it there then, save my money for some real cams
