I've got an AE111 swap in my 86. Its been running decent but still working out the bugs (replacing sensors, maintenance, etc) since the initial swap. Running electric fans that seem to be stressing the charging system since they are always on. It looks like my alternator has dies out on me. Do you guys usually rebuild, replace, or convert to some other alternator?
As far as cooling. I'm running a Fluidyne radiator w/dual fans. The fans keep the car super cool but i think they are too much on the system. What are you guys runing & how well is it working for you?

It's a possibility you're voltage regulator or amperage output wasn't up to snuff as it is. Just replace the alternator with a new/remanufactured one make sure it's a lifetime warranty. I converted my 4ac to electric fan and I have no issues with charging. I do have some odd wiring going on from previous owners. Ha

I dont think replacing an AE111 alternator will be that easy. Does anyone have a source? Not trying to spend $375 on a new one from Toyota.

First your fans shouldn't be running all the time .....your engine has an optimal operating temperature and the way fans are suppose to work are the temp sensor is made its suppose to trip a relay after a certain temp....fans kick on...cools the engine down and turn off...and keeps repeating the process....they dont run much when your driving as the cool air coming in takes the place of the fans...anyhow what kind of plumbing are you using on the blacktop....? if your using the factory setup with one of the JDM kits for the back of the head u can get an temp sensor adapter that you cut into the rubber hose to fit....find one of the 4ag one wire temp sensors and fit it into the housing....then wire the fans up to a double relay setup one that kicks power on and one for the sensor...theres a write up somewhere online about how to wire up the relays....your fans should operate now in accordance with the temp sensor reading the engine temps....another way to cool the engine is higher capacity oil pan and better oil cooler.....more oil capacity means the same oil is cycled thru the engine less and allowed more time to cool...in regards to the alternator i had my ae111 rebuilt for racing...they changed out the bearings inside to something that spins a lot better without causing so much drag on the engine and something else to the internals voltage related think it was like 150 bucks...

Running the JSP mod 20v head with 16v TRD headgasket and 16v water pump. I've got some ching-chong Koyo knock off with twin 10" fans. Runs really cold too, like 1/3 temp. It's running colder than I like but come summer time when it's 100+F here and I'm on the track she will be cooler than Fonzy. eHHHHHHHH

Thats legit. I need to look into that head conversion. It would make it easier to service in the long run.
