AE86 Temperature / Gas / Oil Gauge not working

Postby Swooki » Mon Feb 03, 2020 1:50 pm

hello, this car is a swapped 4age and im not sure from what car but the gauges don't work...
The RPM and MPH works just not those 3 gauges
Gas
Temperature
Oil

What could the reasons be?

Temp & Oil are just one wire signals.

Temp comes from the upper waterneck single terminal sensor.
Oil comes from the the oil sender by the exhaust manifold.

Those two wires go through the main big black connector that sits on the top the firewall near the chassis identification stamp and vin plate. Those two wires then go to your cluster.

The gas signal is a potentiometer reading from float arm in the gas tank. That is most likely a one wire signal as well to the cluster.

Check to verify your wires are indeed hooked up to the oil/temp sensors and fuel sender. If they arent, then its possible something is wrong with your cluster. You may be missing a fuse or something is not connected. You can use the continuity setting on your multimeter to check for a break in the wire.

This is assuming you have a 4age 16v.

How do i check for continuity on the multimeter?

Also, do you have photos of the wires?
