Ignition key source

Postby mr2mk1hero » Wed Mar 28, 2018 1:10 pm

So I'm doing a bunch of wiring and have a really stupid newby question.

What is a good wire to use an ignition key source, so something that will be powered on when the key is in the on AND start positions and powered off when the key is in the off position. What would be a good wire to tap in for that, preferably one in the engine bay general area with easy access :)

I'm thinking the 12v supply to the ignition coil is good? Anyone know which color wire that is? Or I thought about taping into a wire from the EFI main relay? Or is something else a better idea and/or proven practice?

Thanks!

What are you trying to wire up in the engine bay? I would probably use the EFI main relay but really depends on what you are trying to do.

Use the original wires where possible. So use the black and red ecu power wire to power up the ecu, use the coil and igniter power wire to power up your new coil(s) this is probably black and orange.

According to this I can use the black/red or the black/orange wires. But here's the thing, I need the ecu to have power both when I turn the key to the second stop and when I crank the engine.

I thought the key positions were lock, acc, on and start. So what the heck is "run"?

Consider Run as ON.
The black and red wire is +B so it powers up the ecu and T-VIS solenoid and is in the Diagnosis box as +B.
The black and orange is used only for the ignition coil and igniter.
