Distributor Coil?

    My '85b MR2 has a tachometer freak out every day or so (either works perfectly or just pegs randomly with no change in RPM's).
    Is this the sign of a dying distributor pick up coil? It is still running fine. But I don't want to die in a bad place.

AFAIK the MR2 tacho will be triggered by a voltage spike derived from
the coil negative. So no connection to the distributor pickups. Most likely
you have a bad/loose connection somewhere on the tacho feed wire.
