20v blacktop o2 sensor

Postby GZE_RA21 » Sat Aug 20, 2016 1:06 pm

Hi! Just wanted to run a quick one by you guys, I have a 20v blacktop in my gts corolla and was wondering if anyone had ever tried using a different o2 sensor than the factory blacktop sensor? (89465-19685)

I ask because it's like $100+ for the oem BT o2. I found and ordered an o2 sensor for a 1995 3.0 v6 4runner because it looks the same and has the same connector, most importantly a denso sensor was only $40 shipped.

I hooked it all up and installed it and it hasn't thrown a code and seems to be functioning. (My engine was missing the o2 when I got it and was running horribly rich)

Anyone else have any input? Ive never seen anyone else try this before and figured if it works it might be a helpful alternative.

No reason why it should be a problem as long as the connections are correct.

The only requirement I know of for the sensor is to make sure the heater resistance is around 11 to 16 Ohms so as to not tax the drive transistor of the O2 heater circuit. Other than that, you can use any zirconia sensor with a heater (preferably four-wire) and a connector that matches your harness or a connector with a harness connector change if you like.

I think my sensor is from an early 90s Dodge Neon....
