Does anyone know if the earlier 40mm crank is more sought after?

Cheers

Not normally, but i do like the light weight response of the zenki large port, 3 rib, 40/18 with a toda flywheel.

some people like them as MisterJerk points out. I'm using a them in both of my 4AGE powered cars, and I have a spare (not for sale)

**IF** your intention is to spin a 4AGE over 8000 regularly, run with the bigger crank. It is also a bit easier to find piston rod combos for the bigger crank.

Unless you have a set of custom rods, with 40/20 ends  I've debated whether to sell my set. I had changed my mind from 4A-GE to 7A-GE after getting most of my 4A parts. I keep thinking if I get hold of an FX16 or AW11 MR2, I would love to build a lightweight rotating assembly 4A for it.

basically what I built for Skippy (my 87 FX16... current for sale)

you don't need custom rods.... Molnar Technologies sells 40/20 rods for pretty cheap ($405) http://www.molnartechnologies.com/molnar-rods-sp.html

but modifying a set of OEM rods shouldn't run you more then $200 tops

made in China, finished in the USA, tolerances to .0001", made from 4340 steel billet, using ARP fasteners. I've not yet used a set, but I do have a set......

I saw that... if only I lived on the west coast!

Well damn. I'll never sell my set for what I paid for them (from Orion Engineering). My only problem with the rods is no thrust side (?) oiling holes like OEM rods have (either the 16v style or the Blacktop style slots on the sides).

fly out, drive back....

I've not yet seen a 4AGE "H" beam rod have the thrust side oiling hole... you can have a machinist add it.... maybe (costly)

That's odd. I figured some manufacturers would want to at least do the slots on the sides. The custom length 7A-GE rods from Matrix Garage have oiling slots on the sides (x4, like the BT rods but in front & back).
