A strange Question

Im a newbie on here so be kind to me,

I am at present building a small lightweight Hotrod/streetrod, it was going to be Bike powered front engine RWD, but I was offered a deal on a stash of 4AGE 16v engines and RWD parts, including a T50, It took all of about 30 seconds to say YES, one engines is from a AE86s and 2 are MR2, other bits include 40DHLAs and manifold-----
The car is going to be, I hope be retro in style, hence, Where I want to go with the engine, one of the things I want to do is lose the serpentine belt and retrofit a V belt drive, use a small denso alternator inside a old Lucas Dynamo case etc,
I will cast an alloy front cover so I can direct drive a distributor off the end of the cam, the distributor has a drive off of it so I can run a chronomatic mechanical tach, internals of the dissy will probably running a 36-1 disc inside it running an optical trigger and mapped 3d ignition.

My first question, (there probably will be loads more) -------- is there a bolt on pulley that I can fit to remove the serpentine belt system and go to V belt, from an early engine??

As my car will possibly weigh in under 350kg, 800lbs, I was thinking of a lightened flywheel too, where is the best place to shed weight from it, and how much, can I expect to lose from it, Im guessing by removing some of the "pot", I have no desire to run a paddle or multiplate clutch, any other suggestions about the flywheel??

many thanks
Ian

Welcome to club4AG Ian :)

Check out the earlier A-Series engines (2A, 3A, 4A) and you should
be able to find the pulleys you need. Here is an example (big pic !!

Here is a 4AGE flywheel that has been lightened...

... and you will see that material has only been removed from the
outside rim. Removing material close to the center is much less
effective. The 20V Blacktop flywheel has a similar treatment from
the factory. But for the weight of your car you could go lighter...
maybe look at a JUN, TODA or similar one-piece chromealloy flywheel.

You may want to look at a 1AC motor out of a 80ish Trecel for accessories. They are basically the early 3AC motors and may run a v belt. It's been years since I've seen one in person, but I know that the accessories will fit.

There are plenty of aftermarket flywheels available and in my opinion there is nothing like the retro 'ping' from a steel one when starting the engine up !
Just be aware that there are different diameter clutches on 4age engines.
200mm for AE86 and MR2 normally aspirated.
All the 4age flywheels are the same diameter it is just the clutch faces and fitment that are different.

There are three different diameters. AE86 had the 200mm.
AW11 till 85 had 200 but after than NA were all 215. Later Corollas and anything else NA including late LP, SP and 20v were 215.
GZEs were 225.
