I've bought a ZE motor and I want to make sure that I dont need to do any work on the crank and bearings before it goes in. Forive the n00b question, but I guess we all have to start from somewhere...
If I am wanting to pull out the crank can I loosen the bolts/nuts connecting rods to the crank (marking them and loosening in sequence of course), the pistons would stay behind in the block right?
Are there any other considerations I need to take care of when doing this? Obviously I would need to mark the crank position so that I refit it exactly the same way..
Thanks!

Re: checking crank and bearings
First get a book for your car
If you’re going to go that deep you might as well rebuild the motor
I would just pull the pan make sure there is no metal in the pan
Make sure it rotates freely check the thrust bearing play if that is all good I would call it good
Any more then this you might as well rebuild it
Thrust bearing check

Good luck
