4ac crank has 6 bolts, 4age has 8, where the flex plate bolts up. So no
can't remember if the torque converter pattern is the same, but try a auto flexplate from mr2 or fx16 and compare em to the 4ac 1

if none of the fwd flex plates could work, and ya reeeaalllyy wanted an auto in there...... I guess you could look into having the 4ac flex plate 6 holes plug welded, machined flat then redrilled to 8.
there is a 6/8-hole spacer or shim? there as well. Can't remember if the fwd had one

Blasphemous I know, but you could also use a 4A-C crank inside the 4A-GE. But I think the 4A-C crank has 40mm rod journals so you would have to use an early bigport set of rods (and pistons -- 9.4:1). If you're not building the engine for crazy power (whether it's NA or turbo) I wouldn't worry about reliability. The 4A-F(E) cranks are probably the same as the 4A-C cranks, and guys turbo those 4A-FEs with no mods and get like 160 HP or more with no problems.

The later 4A-FE cranks might have 42mm rod journals. I'd have to check the '97 crank I have sitting in my garage. Then you could use later bigport, or smallport, rods on a 4A-FE crank. All 4A-F(E) cranks have six bolts so there should be no problem getting that 4A-C flex plate bolted up.

Someone told me that a 7a crank is 6 bolts
If that's the case I could just do that

Aren't 7A cranks also stroked for 1.8l? You'd need custom rods. Better off with a 4A-FE crank.

Yea 7a strokes to 1.8 but using stock rods
Piston choice is what matters

So dope that should work

Ha yea man
U don't put a 7a crank in the 4ag block
U use the whole 7a block on a 4ag head
That's what a 7ag is

AE86's in Japan came with the 4A-GE and an automatic transmission. They used the flexplate from the AW11 MR2 and AE82 Corolla FX16 (32101-17010).

That said, I'm not sure if the AE86 SR5 torque converter will bolt right up to that flexplate or not. The AE86 A/T in Japan used a different torque converter (32000-12150) from the AE85/AE86 A/T in North America (32000-12070/71), but that could be for a number of reasons. The front oil pump and shaft is the same between the two, so using the Japanese torque converter with a North American transmission shouldn't be a problem.

It looks like there were mostly some small revisions to the transmission, but they're very similar. If you get a flexplate from an MR2/FX16 I think that should give you most of what you need to bolt an SR5 A/T setup onto the 4A-G. Worst case, you may need to drill some new holes for the torque converter to flexplate bolts.
