Stripped oil pump bolt help!!

Postby alavelle12 » Wed Feb 26, 2014 7:23 pm

Alright guys, so I have been freshening up my blacktop 20v to drop into my hatch. I did the 16v oil pump/timing tensioner conversion and as I was finishing up bolting/torquing everything back together, one of the bolts on the oil pump pickup tube stripped out. It wasn't overtightend or torqued and just stripped right through the threads!! That is besides the point though. My question is, would it be safe to drill this hole out and tap it or helicoil it or what would you guys recommend? this is literally the last bolt on the motor that I need to figure out, otherwise its bolt up my oil pan and she's ready to go.
Thanks,
Alec

I don't remember exactly what that boss looks like but as long as there is enough material to helicoil then that will be fine.
Make sure there isn't anything that you can drill into that would damage it and or be careful with the depth you drill to. Make sure you don't get any shavings anywhere you can't easily get them out and cleanup very well when you are done.
