Head Gasket on Bored Cylinders

Postby alabamaguy » Tue Sep 17, 2013 7:50 pm

I'm putting a motor back together and the cylinders have been bored to 81.5mm. Is it ok to use a standard 81mm bore headgasket on it or do I need to find an 82mm?

I had to use an 82mm bore HG when I enquired about this.

I believe HKS do one in standard thickness

you might check the OEM one... I believe it is 82mm. When I had my engine bored out to 81.5, I used a stock OEM gasket.

I need to use an mls gasket. Would a cometic gasket for 81mm be correct or do I need an 82mm? I was told that stock size is ok but I need to make sure.

The head gasket needs to be bigger than the piston. I'm not sure what the diameter of the OEM HG is but for something like Cometic you will want to get bigger than 81.5.

I would just do the standard Cometic 83mm. There is no problem with it being that much bigger.

HKS only do a 1.6mm and 2mm HG.
I don't know WTF they are thinking there.

Bore is 82mm on a stock head gasket. Cometic makes a 83mm mls one. I have a new one if you are interested. I dont think i will ever get around to using it :)

I bought a Cometic 82mm 1.0mm thick gasket from the USA as it took significantly less time importing it from there to the UK - £50 cheaper as well!

I had to use a thinner one to increase my compression.
