I just swapped a blue top 4age in my 86 about 2 months ago, since then I've been struggling to figure out why the main injectors won't fire.
The details of the engine:
-Engine from 87 mr2
-Has ecu for and 85 mr2
-egr removed
-no plans to put afm in (because I physically can fit it)
-still has intake manifold from mr2
There are no plans for this car to be on the street but I am on a tight (pizza deliver) budget, anything I can do to get it running at least. Thanks in advance
Bluetop 4age injectors not working
Re: Bluetop 4age injectors not working
you will need the afm. it gives signal to the fuel pump. if it is not plugged in and functioning the fuel pump wont turn on. there is also a ground with 4 brown wires that needs to be grounded. it is on top of the intake mani under the fuel rail if that is not bolted down ther injectors wont work at all. make sure you have the injector resistor plugged in too.

Lol, yeah the only way you are going to get away without an AFM is by switching to aftermarket engine management.

Re: Bluetop 4age injectors not working
I put the 4age in in place of a 4ac, I have the fuel pump on its own switch in the car. I can get the start injector spraying to initially start it, but then the other injectors will not take over, is this just because I dont have the afm in? The injectors have power, te ecu just isnt switching the grounds

Yes!
You cannot run a 4AGE or any other AFM motor for that matter on the stock ECU without the AFM.
First of all there is a circuit in the AFM that activates the fuel pump when the AFM door is opened by air flowing through it. This circuit is bypassed when you crank the motor over so you will get fuel for a second but as soon as the key returns to the run position the fuel stops flowing. More importantly the ECU has no idea how much fuel to deliver without the AFM. Even if your switch bypasses the AFM safety interlock which by the way is a dangerous way to have it wired.
Your car will not run whatsoever without the AFM.
