whole mess of vacuum q's

Postby kennyb01 » Thu May 16, 2013 11:12 am

First off I don't live in a smog controlled area. Secondly I didn't buy a corolla to save the environment. I have several questions regarding vacuum.

1. Any one deleted the dashpot? Not sure why there is one to begin with.
2. Can I delete those 4 pesky/ugly vacuum emission ports coming out of the thermostat housing?
3. I'm not running tvis or egr. Egr shouldn't throw a cel on a pre obd2 ecu right?
4. Are their any other emission/vacuum i can delete? Looking for sexy simplicity and gobs of vacuum isn't that.
5. What is this? ↓↓↓↓ I feel like it may be necessary. It's mounted on the side of my afm senser. (Air flow meter)

I have all emissions removed except for the charchoal canister but i have ran with out it and no CEL

I have removed the dashpot when i blocked off my iacv. i didnt notice any difference.

the thing in the pic is a vsv that controlls idle under a large electrical load. so if you turn your radio on your headlight on your idle will not drop unplug it and you will see a slight drop in idle. you can go with out it. i have mine removed on my ae86

what vac lines are on the thermostat housing? i have an ae92 t-stat housing to run my efans and there is no vac lines can you post a pic?

You can pretty much run without any vacuum lines. On my rally-X FX16 all four ports on the top of throttle body are capped. But to do that you need to remove charcoal cannister, which does cause a problem with fuel vapors. One set of those vaccuum lines on the thermo is for the cannister. If memory serves, the other set is for the EGR.
DP is another emissions thing and can be removed. What it does is prevent the throttle butterfly from closing completely for a split second when you let completely off the gas.
Previous post explained your pic, its the electric load idle up. You can run without. If you got your headlights, fan, rear froster, stepping on brake going all at once, your idle might dip down low.
I am however still running the power steering idle up vacuum lines, and the brake booster vacuum. And TVIS.

oh the head rear plate vsv's ...the blue ones yea the thin one is charcoal canister and the thicker one is egr. i would leave the charcoal can if your car is a daily or if you have children or passengers frequently. when i didnt have mine hooked up i could smell fuel vapors and it would make me feel a little weird and some times would give me a headache but it soon went away after i got out of the car. thats the reason for re installing the can on my car. the charcoal can also helps with fuel economy a bit not much tho

I can report that my charcoal delete worked pretty well, I didn't smell any gas fumes the whole day of event. See my other post on that. It's not cheap though, those valves are almost $100 each.
Now I just have to fix exhaust fumes, my flex joint has developed a leak, again!
