Hi Folks,
Something's been bugging me since I got the car back, when the AC compressor is working, the engine idles rather high, around 1,500rpm
Now I just read a mention in another thread that the engines have some kind of "idle up" function on compressor operation? Where might I find more information on this, and is it possible to adjust this?
Air Conditioner high idle
Re: Air Conditioner high idle
I don't remember the details but YES, there are "idle up diodes" that pull up the idle speed when the brake lights are lit, and when the AC compressor is on. Your engine will stall out if the idle speed is not raised to compensate for those loads. I think the AC idle-up adjustment is a little gizmo mounted onthe right shock tower with two wires coming out of it, one of those little "wft is this thing?" gizmos.

LOL I don't exactly have a standard engine bay:

So i'd love some more specific info, what does the gizmo look like, what is it attached to (I suspect one of the vacuum lines)?
I know the idle speed needs to be raised, it's just too much, even after the engine is warmed up, 1,500 rpm is a bit high...

here is a pic of the ac idle up valve it is located on the right strut tower. it is connected by vac lines to the intake tube

if you turn on your car with the ac running while you are experiencing the high idle, there is a white screw piece with a spring . if you tighten or loosen that white plastic screw it will change the idle while your ac is on.

thanks, it kinda looks like that thing behind the throttle body with a vacuum tube going into it:

Adjustment screw should thus be pointing down from there, will take a closer look at it tomorrow!
