4age head bolt. HELP

Postby danhtruong » Mon Nov 09, 2015 1:06 am

Hi everybody;

I took the head out already, and there are 10 long head bold still in the block. It seem like really tight to take out. Please show me how can I take them out before I can give the block to machine shop.

Thank you very much.

I assume you mean studs holding the head on the engine block. Typically you just put two nuts on the stud threads and tighten them together. Then you can back them out just like a bolt. If that does not work you can get a stud removal tool. It's a cam design that tightens against the shank of the stud, allowing you to loosen it from the block. Dave

ARP head studs have one end hex keyed. You may be able to just use the right size hex key to remove them... assuming they're ARPs but weren't installed upside-down!

This is one type of stud remover...

You can position the knurled wheel so that it does not grip on the threads and mess
them up. There are other types of stud removers, but the cam type would most likely
be the next method to try if the double nut method does not work.

if the double nut method isn't working, they are loctite'd in place, and stud pullers aren't gonna do chit.

have the machine shop remove them for you dude.
