I'd like to get a lightweight flywheel for my ae82. I think I read that mr2 '85-'88 was the same. Is this so? I tried a topic search in this forum and the engine forum, but got no help What does "the specified back end search does not exist' mean?

'85 -'87 NA flywheels were the same, 200mm clutchset and pretty heavy. I weighed the "bluetop" and "redtop" flywheels once, and I think the later "redtop" was actually lighter, but not by much. 212mm clutchset and lighter. I had a "redtop" flywheel that had weight removed from the outer ring that seemed to do better than a stocker. If your question is more for interchangeability, the only flywheels that aren't readily swapped are the earliest 6-bolt and the S/C. Outside of that you can pretty much go nuts flip flopping them. If you are looking at a flywheel from an AW11 or AE86, 92, 101, 111 with a 'C' series transaxle or 'T' transmission you can trade those easily. I like a 7-7.5 pound flywheel, but it's a little on the light side for the street.

As for the "the specified end search does not exist" means the site is jacked up. It's the reason for all the multiple carbon copy postings.

Thank you. Any opinion of the lightweight kits offered on ebay? I posted this thread because none of the clutch/flywheel kits (other than OEM) were listed as compatible w/ae82.

I have an ebay flywheel, looks good and of decent quality, but I haven't used it yet. Seems the AE82/FX16 gets ignored a lot, not a big production car. If it'll fit the N/A MR2 it'll fit your AE82. The flywheel I had in my Black AE82 came from one of my MR2s, it was still attached to the engine that came out of an MR2.

I've matched my Fidanza flywheel on my AW11 with a Corolla T-sport clutch - fits the same. May be lighter than stock AW11 clutch kit but who knows. It offers an alternative anyway.

How does the aluminum flywheel do? I've always opted for the steel.

I have mistrust of the aluminum FW, though i have never used them.
picked up a Toda 3.7 kg a while back for a good price and never looked back. I actually recommend a light fw in any manual car.
