Re: Another exhaust question..why small diameter at the end?

I don't know Toyota's logic on that car, but in general exhaust size is chosen either "because we've got lots of it" i.e. it is stock from other models, or because it saved money, or in order to tune the exhaust sound, or on some rare days, because it is tuning the flow. Yes, smaller tubin...

Re: SUNROOF DRAIN LINES REPLACEMENT.

Weed whacker line might also work well, and be cheaper than a spool of really heavy fishing line. I'd expect the drain tubes to be clipped or glued somewhere along their length to prevent rattles and if they run clear, I'd leave them be. Too much chance old nylon would break up if you tried to pull ...

Re: TAIL fuse not getting power?

Probably a loose wire or a loose ground screw or a bad light switch (they come apart internally as they age) and the car shaking and vibrating when it is running is enough to make that come and go. Try starting it up and then tapping on the light switch for a while, see if the tapping sometimes turn...

Re: could anyone tell me what would be a good price for this

I think he's full of it. You can't just top off the AC on these cars, most AC shops no longer deal in R12 and if there's a leak, it can easily cost you a grand to have it FOUND and fixed. More likely $1500. As an individual, you can't legally buy it or add it either without an EPA permit. So...he's ...

Re: Rewired my entire car - Alternator issues.

Yes, you need all three of those wires. The white one is a battery voltage sense lead, it goes to the + terminal of the battery via the fusible link blocks. Separately from the charge output wire, although both are identical white SAE-10 wires stock. Replace your charge wire with something heavier a...

Re: TAIL fuse not getting power?

A melty fuse indicates that something has been pulling a little too much power for a long time. Often it means the fuse socket is a little corroded, or the main harness plug is corroded where it goes into the bottom of the fuse box under the hood. You can unbolt the fuse box and turn it over to acce...

Regardless of torque, if you have a threaded part in a place that's not convenient, it is a very good idea to clean the threads thoroughly (solvent spray) and then use LocTite when you put it back together. The red is supposed to be "permanent" but they all have something like a two-year s...

Thank you! With any luck (furiously knocking wood) the DOT5 was intended to make sure I'd never have to do brake work on this car, with find memories of crocus cloth and rebuilding the brake cylinders on my 289 Mustang when it was only four or five years old.

EPDM? Very interesting. I wonder how using DOT5 affects that picture. (Put mine in 26 years ago, knock wood.)

Interesting the way so many companies want you to have your brake fluid tested, not just changed on schedule, these days. Brakes ain't just brakes anymore.

That's a hitch ball. So what? It bolts into a trailer hitch bracket, and those bolt into the car. They used to be made for it, to fit the mounting bolts that hold the bumper frame on. An L-shaped piece of metal, no big deal except if you need to custom make one and don't have a metal shop around.

Another option would be to shoot PBlaster into it. That would hurt any o-rings but you'd want to replace those during a rebuild anyhow. Maybe try that first, before the oil.

Get a black rubber cork with a hole in the middle of it, oddly still sold by Ace Hardware in the drawer of nuts & bolts & odd parts, and bolt or jam a Schraeder valve fitting into the middle. Jam the cork in the housing, put an air pressure hose on it, poof, the valve body should blow out. W...

AFAIK, if that switch loosens up the lights won't turn on, so the odds are it is jamming or failing internally. I think I'd just replace it to make sure. 28? years on a "floor" switch must just be enough. Shouldn't be expensive.

You are aware, that "tube" locks like the Solex or Ace are considered pick-resistant, but very easy to slap out? They change the way someone can get into your car, but they don't make it any harder to get in. In some ways, they can make it simpler. Of course if your cylinders are just all ...

Depending on what the "small chip" is, you may be able to clean it off and fill it with JBWeld, or take it to a machine shop, where they can fill it by welding and then grinding it back down. So while you're waiting to find a new one, check around, see if there's a machine shop in the area...

You might also consider the timing belt, while you are working with it. An iron foundry to cast stainless steel brackets??

I would have thought the brackets needed to be stamped or forged, not cast. I'd think you're going to need a machine shop or CAD milling, not a forge for that.
