Re: Rebuilt 4age bigport no spark

Further more to your lack of power issue on threads above - the TVIS being stuck open is a good thing.

I've deleted my TVIS as it gives me more torque at the bottom end. Mine really does pull strongly in the higher rev range, even more than it did with the TVIS operating as normal.

Re: Rebuilt 4age bigport no spark

You're exhaust sounds like it's blowing badly mate. I've got cat cams and I shimmed it myself. My shims are not set to all 0.20 as the card specifies. They are still as per standard tolerance. Mine also sounds like yours when it's cold. I'm sure I've read or heard somewhere that the injectors can ma...

Re: Please help - what are these and where do they go?

Hi, I'm finally putting my 4age in my MR2 mk1 back together, and there's a few electrical bits I'm not sure where to install. Image 1 https://postimg.org/image/owyl5dcpp/ https://s22.postimg.org/owyl5dcpp/IMG_20161004_144249.jpg Where does this bugger go? I assume somewhere near the alternator? I h...

Re: Rebuilt 4age bigport no spark

Buy another throttle body off of a working engine if you can.

I had this issue and could not resolve it and it turned out to be the AAV on the Throttle Body.

Re: Rebuilt 4age bigport no spark

Check the actual connector itself that goes into the TPS plug. I had all sorts of issues that I thought were TPS related, I checked all the readings and all were in tolerance. The plug didn't click in properly and that was the cause of the problems. I suffered for 3 months with the car cutting out w...

Re: Rebuilt 4age bigport no spark

By the way, the battery stand isn't the best place for the earth.

There is a big bolt on the gearbox you can remove and put the earth onto. Much better connection.

Re: head volume

My mate has brought me over from the States the 10.3 smallport pistons. The comp height is less than standard, but this doesn't appear to be a problem. However I do not know if the distance above the deck of the piston is going to be a problem if i shave the head 0.003" and put on a 1.01mm head...

Well I'd like to keep it close to stock, but maybe 35.5

Out in the numbers in the comp ratio calculator and I get 11.2 with no major mods. Looking for 11.2-11.5

I have discovered that my smallport cylinder head is 115.95mm I have seen somewhere that standard is 116mm As I do not have any valve springs installed, measuring with liquid is not possible. I will be purchasing these soon, but is there any blurb that can determine the volume of my head based on th...

Re: Piston ring question

I actually found out from the eBay vendor that the rings are from DNJ which come with his pistons. So clevite pistons do not have clevite rings.

But you have confirmed that the rings are correct :)

HG bore diameter

I am struggling to find a 81.5mm bore head gasket 0.03 to 0.04" thick

My new Pistons are going to be 81.5mm

I've found 83mm to before obtainable, would this be an issue? Or can I use a 20v head gasket as they are obtainable in 82mm for my desired thickness.

Cheers

I've found a smallport head and I am looking to buy it.

What differences i.e. components will I need if I swap it over?

Fuel rail?
Water pump?
Cooling pipes?
Anything else?
