Re: 4age 20v Throttle Body Sync problem

If the factory MAP sensor did not have a hose on it when you got the car, leave it that way. The ECU might use it for barometric correction, Changing things when you don't know what they do is the recipe for a big headache !! It is usual for the ISCV to provide extra air to assist starting, and then...

Re: 4age 20v Throttle Body Sync problem

There is no evidence to suggest that the ECU is not working correctly, or that it is in need of adjustment. Chances are it is simply reacting to the inputs it is receiving. Where is the WBO2 sensor located ? In one of the header tubes or after the collector ? The fact that the ISCV does not seem to ...

Re: WATER in my engine

Head gasket is blown... pull the head and see if there is any
other damage. If you get lucky a good clean and a fresh factory
head gasket could have you up and running. Just make sure you
change the oil and filter to get as much of the water out as you
can before firing it up.

The "runs fine when cold and dies when hot" kind of intermittent fault is one of the most difficult to diagnose, as you can't pick it up testing the car in your garage. I am not a fan of just replacing random parts system of fault finding, as you can rack up some serious costs before you h...

Shocks (dampers) and the AE86 (Part 3)

SO, HOW DOES A SHOCK ABSORBER WORK ? Regardless of what colour it is or what brand is on the outside, all shock absorbers work by forcing oil to pass thru a small orifice (hole). The Laws of Hydrodynamics say that the faster you try and push the oil thru the hole, the greater the resistance will be...

Wet sleeves with a wall thickness of just under 6mm according to

@ Deuce Cam - Point I was trying to make is that serious enthusiasts can get shocks custom made/valved specifically for their cars, at a cost. Readymade shocks, unless they are designed for an application (like HTS) are always going to be a compromise. For example, the SW20/Camaro AGX combo I have o...

Shocks (dampers) and the AE86 (Part 1)

The AE86 GTS left the factory with open type oil filled front shocks and KYB gas filled rear shocks. These were quite well matched to the standard springs, and gave a somewhat firm and sporty ride. Thirty years on the factory "stance" of the car is not going to cut it with the current drif...

Intermittent faults are the hardest to diagnose. Could be a dry joint in the relay, loose splice or connection somewhere in the wiring, dodgy relay in the power supply elsewhere... Not elegant but should work OK. The leaf springs locate the axle, the
traction bars control spring windup, and the the coil springs add a little
more spring rate to help control squat.

The AE86 fuel pump does not prime like a modern car. The COR has two coils, one which is energised by the ECU only during cranking, and another that is energised when the flap in the AFM opens. The second coil takes over from the first as soon as there is a enough air passing thru the AFM to open th...

If it backfires while cranking in fuel cut it is lighting off some of the fuel that is sitting in the cylinders. MAP sensor normally connects to one of the three nipples on a round black plug halfway along the engine side of the intake manifold.
