Re: Talking about Springs....

It is in the nature of coil springs that they do not lend themselves to having both a high spring rate and a long unloaded length. They are either short (fewer active coils) and stiff, or long (more active coils) and soft. Lowering springs that are sold as "dual rate" are essentially short...

Talking about Springs....

Here is one definition of a spring... A spring is defined as an elastic body, whose function is to distort when loaded and to recover its original shape when the load is removed. I prefer to think of it as a device for storing energy. Those of us who have opened an old wind-up clock to see how it wo...

Re: Help. 16v Redtop Swap

To check for voltage and continuity, you will need to shell out $25-30 for a basic multimeter. Analog or digital is OK. Then study this... http://www.wikihow.com/Use-a-Multimeter Once you have the basics figured, attach the black lead to a solid chassis ground point, set the instrument to a scale th...

Re: Silvertop timing mark wandering at idle and hesitation

Yeah... I don't have a 20V so I was thinking that the tensioner pulley would be locked in place like a 16V. But looking at some pics it seems that the ST uses a spring loaded tensioner. Therefore unless the tensioner broke the belt tension should always be good. If unplugging the solenoid makes the ...

Re: Silvertop timing mark wandering at idle and hesitation

Pretty sure (but not 100% certain) that diagnostic mode should lock
the timing at base timing (somewhere between 8-12 BTDC). If the
timing jumps around as much as yours is jumping, I would check the
timing belt tension. A loose belt could allow that kind of movement.

Run the cams with the factory cam wheels as HKS will have set the knock pins to give the correct timing. If you want to install your adjustable wheels, install the cams with the factory wheels, and then swap the adjustable wheels in without disturbing the cams or timing belt. Back the tensioner off ...

Why do I need a Fuel Pressure Regulator ?

The AE86 GTS (and all fuel injected cars) has a Fuel Pressure Regulator (FPR). On the GTS it is mounted on the firewall end of the injector fuel rail. Fuel enters the FPR from the fuel rail via a bolted and O-ringed plug-in connection. Excess fuel flows out of the FPR and back to the tank via a hose...

To set the ignition timing when the engine is not running, you need to follow these steps... 1. Get the #1 cylinder at Top Dead Centre (TDC) on the compression stroke . Take all the spark plugs out and then let the plug for #1 cylinder (closest to the crankshaft pulley) sit loosely in the plug hole....

And try raising the warm idle 100-150rpm by adjusting the
idle air adjustment screw down the tube on the side of the
throttle body. Turn the screw out (ACW) until you hear the
idle get a bit higher.

The factory cooling system on the AE86 GTS (SR5 is similar) works very well. Re: AE92 4x114.3, is this a thing?

The 4 x 114.3 pattern is most commonly found on older RWD cars, so the wheel offset will be less positive than the offset commonly used with 4 x 100 wheels on FWD cars. That means the wheels will stick out a lot further, that can be a problem with guard rubbing. Cool if you like the skateboard look ...
