Re: Odd heater behaviour
So an update... finally managed to get the car out for a run and it looks like the heater core is blocked. Inlet hose is hot but the return hose is stone cold. I really hope that it can be flushed out. Any recommendations for which way to flush it, i.e with the flow or against the flow? Thanks for a...

Re: Odd heater behaviour
Feed and return heater hoses are hot at idle and the heater is working. Weather is a bit crap so I'll need to wait until I can take it out to test them when the heater goes cold. Thanks

Re: Odd heater behaviour
Hi Jondee, thanks and all of those things are very plausible and I will check them carefully. Indeed, both of the large diameter radiator hoses are soft, I wonder if that could be it?

Odd heater behaviour
AE86 standard heater without air conditioning. Idling heater is ok, fan blowing hot/warm air. Driving, the heater suddenly goes cold after an indeterminate time and stays cold. Any ideas what this might be?

Re: Shock Dyno Data Anyone?
Jayrdee, yep sent you some details. Whilst I understand that used dampers will give a slightly different result to new ones my TRD's seem about as good as I want for my application. If they have worn to this setting then all the better for getting the data now!

Re: Shock Dyno Data Anyone?
Some useful information there Jondee, thanks. My TRD's are 48511-AE881 1127/588N 4-stage adjustable rate Cartridge type I wonder, should we assume the figures on the far left of the image 'GTV' etc are the standard damper rates? Piston test speeds would need to be confirmed and possibly converted. I...

Re: Shock Dyno Data Anyone?
I'm very tempted to send you one of the TRD blues. It would be interesting to see the graphs and to see what adjusting them does. For the roads in the U.K most performance dampers feel too stiff in high speed bump, wheels hopping etc. and using softer springs has little or no effect on this behaviou...

Re: Check Engine Light, goes off @ 4000 ish rpms
Ok I'm going to throw this out there and it is what I'm thinking, not what I know for certain but it may be worth discussing... Could an O2 sensor be at fault, one that is configured in the ECU to go open loop at above 4200rpm so it would stop reporting a fault over this rpm? Is there another sensor...

Re: Syncing throttle bodies question
You definitely need a tool to measure the air flow as shown by OST The important thing is to adjust the linkage off of idle. A way to do this is to open the throttle a small set amount, this can be done by wedging the cable open. Then you need to adjust the linkages so that each itb reads the same. ...

No assumption required, anyone who builds an engine and is then surprised by the compression ratio...
"I don't really know what I built"
"I ran a compression test on the cylinders and they all read high, really high, like 15 bar high"

Re: HIGH comp Big port carby build with MANY questions
You asked this question: "What supporting mods are the most important?" Throwing those camshafts in and having no facility to fine tune them is a complete waste of time. Here is the thing, to make the power that your build may be capable of you will need to set the carbs up properly but yo...

Re: HIGH comp Big port carby build with MANY questions
I guess you built this engine to give more power than standard... otherwise why bother? At least two of your questions would be answered by taking the engined to a dyno / rolling road, 98 octane fuel and a good AFR. The weak point of the 4age? The person who tunes it.

Re: 20V silvertop potential.
What you gain in revs you lose in low down torque compared to your 2.0
The cams you are considering are only marginally more aggressive than standard. Expect to see similar WHP figures to what you already have unless you go for a fully prepared competition engine where over 200hp is possible.

Re: Surging idle
It could be that the TPS needs setting again. There is an idle switch in the TPS that must be engaged when idling if the switch is not engaged the fuel calibration from the ecu is wrong. This is relatively easy to check for free and the best way I have found is first to accurately scribe the current...

Is this an engine conversion or did the car come with installed engine from the factory? If it is factory then it could be the TPS. Try doing a diagnostic test and report results.
