Re: Compression: What is acceptable?

What does the person selling the engine say about this ?
Personally I would walk away unless the seller was prepared to allow for some repairs their price.
Unless the valve clearances are incorrect the head is going to have to come off so allow enough money for a head gasket change.

Re: Compression: What is acceptable?

That difference is not really acceptable.
It might be worth checking the valve clearances on the low cylinder.
Was the test done with the engine in the car, at operating temperature and the throttle fully open ?

Re: What is this sensor? (16v)

Just out of curiosity why on earth would you do that? I'm wondering if he put an aftermarket oil pressure sensor in the oil pump (the lower right of the pic, that Allen plug). I think OST and some others have done that. I'm considering doing the same when I get my engine built. Now that is interest...

Re: Quick manual rack questions

The rack needs to be in the centre of its travel when doing an alignment. The centre of the rack is when you have equal amounts of rack protruding from each end of the housing. As an initial setting screw on the outer tie rod until only about 7 threads are showing each side and make sure when the al...

Re: Black Top ITBS On 16 Valve 4AGE

A 200hp N/A 4age is going to be quite peaky in the power delivery so budget also for a close ratio gearbox and then you will find the lower gears will be too high so then you also need to budget for a lower final drive, probably something like a 5.1-1 Once you have done this expect the car to have l...

Re: Engine just shuts down. Help!

Sounds like it could be a loose wire connection somewhere, the jolt from tow starting helping to re-make the connection. Once you have the engine running and idling try moving some of the connections around. Start at the ecu and go from there. Be very careful of moving parts in the engine bay (fan) ...

You can probably make it work by changing the wiring, it may not be ideal but probably worth a try. Just make sure you get the wiring correct: http://s3.amazonaws.com/2cp-images/question_images/126331/large.jpg Where vcc is +5v, vta is return signal to ecu, idl is idle switch to ground and E2 is gro...

Re: Rwd coolant lines on hi-comp 4age

If you are using the bigport ecu then it has no knock sensor provision so you can just remove the knock sensor from the block. There is no need to block the hole off unless you think you may want to use the knock sensor in the future and you want to preserve the threads.

Re: Car in storage, 2 years.. Time to start her up but advi

In addition to what Jondee says you might want to raise the oil pressure before actually starting the engine and you can do this by turning the engine over on the starter motor while you have the spark plugs out. It would be as well to disconnect the coil wires and take off the cold start injector p...
