Re: AE86 Rough Start up

With the diagnostic port shorted you should get a steady flashing of the engine management light (EML) on the dashboard, it should not be on solid. Jondee will chime in I'm sure but l think this could be a TPS problem where the idle switch is not engaged in the TPS, effectively the ecu looks at the ...

Re: AE86 Rough Start up

It sounds like it is over fuelling but I'm not sure that there is an error code for that when the engine is first started as the O2 sensor is not reporting. Have you checked for stored error codes? Maybe try disconnecting the cold start injector to see if there is a difference?

They are probably just the spring insulators and if so you will get a quieter ride with them fitted! This is what they look like: https://www.ebay.co.uk/i/171269420074?chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=710-134428-41853-0&mkcid=2&itemid=171269420074&targetid=568476009284&devi...

Be careful with the universal AEM - 4 ecu if you want to run it with the original distributor sensors, the VR signals need reversing and the universal AEM cannot do this.

I think they are AFM specific.
Freedom is THE best plug and play but, yeah, nobody can calibrate them and there is no factory support as E&E have closed their business.

If your original axle is a Kouki and your oem LSD is a Zenki.... Does the half shaft (axle) fit into the differential ok, if you turn a wheel does the other one turn too? There is a thread here with some useful info, if yours was originally a non-lsd then there is an answer for you ;) http://www.aeu...

Re: New Annex Coilovers or...Old faithful TRD Blues etc..

I think that the really expensive dampers have gone a long way beyond just controlling what the spring does when it wants to release energy after being compressed, they are now an energy absorbing device in their own right and probably for once, justifiably called 'shock absorbers' with fewer compro...

Re: New Annex Coilovers or...Old faithful TRD Blues etc..

It's all about suspension travel and modern rally cars have lots of it especially on extension, it helps the tyres just get on with their job and ensures a controlled landing from a jump, you won't see professional rally cars bouncing around on landing these days. I can't upload this image but it do...

Re: New Annex Coilovers or...Old faithful TRD Blues etc..

I fail to see the fascination with coilovers, about the only thing that they allow over standard is corner weight adjustment, which if done correctly is a valid gain but who in the real world actually does it ? The spring being mounted closer to the wheel changes its effective rate so a softer sprin...

Re: New Annex Coilovers or...Old faithful TRD Blues etc..

my other questions is I seen some people reinforce the rear shock towers... with all these coilovers do we need to or should we? Toyota could have easily gone to coilovers on the rear but they chose not to, probably so that they could use a full diameter spring that allows enough travel for the gre...

Re: New Annex Coilovers or...Old faithful TRD Blues etc..

Assassin Andrew has written many great articles on AE86 suspension and I agree with him on the Koni's, they are a good damper and if you are adventurous they are easily modified by substituting different oil viscosity.

Re: New Annex Coilovers or...Old faithful TRD Blues etc..

Aim to keep the front LCA's at the factory angles, either by using roll centre adjusters if you want to lower the car or by keeping the ride height close to stock. Use springs to absorb the bumps, dampers to control the springs and anti-roll (sway) bars to tune the handling. I would consider adjust...

Re: Rose joints / Bushed upgraded suspension

I have been using GP4 fabrication rose jointed TCA's for a few years now, I fitted rubber boots to the joints when they were new and have had no issues. GP4 use quality joints.
As well as adjustability and zero compliance the fully jointed rear arms allow better articulation than rubber / poly bushes.

^this guy knows a thing or two. prob nobody better on the forum for suspension advice. if you want to be low and/or need to dial in ride height you will need coilovers. you could also go custom (what i did), but be prepared for lots of trial and error. Well what can I say ? That one single sentence...
