You can buy distributor oil seal replacement kits, from at least two different sources. Kbox in Canada, and Matrix Garage in the US.

Re: Relocating the oil pan drain bolt?
Thanks. I do have a friend who can weld & fabricate, so that's not a worry for me. I have an extra AE101 4A-FE oil pan sitting around, and I may have him modify it for me someday. I'll have to take another look at a pan to see if it would really be effective. If anything, I was thinking about ge...

Relocating the oil pan drain bolt?
I can understand for the MR layout that the oil pan drain is probably in a more ideal location since you likely jack up the rear of an AW11 for an oil change. But for FWD setups, jacking up the front of the car means the oil pan drain plug is higher than the lowest part of the pan while the front en...

So it would be safe to plug off that fitting on the IM, and vent the cam cover fitting to a catch can? Or even 'just' using a small filter on the cam cover fitting?

Re: FS: Various 4age bluetop (early bigport) parts and more
I have gray connectors with 2 pins each. Not to derail a Buy-Sell-Trade topic into technical talk, but that distributor might be off an AE92. For the US market, I know for a fact that the smallport dizzy has two small-ish grey plugs, smaller than the two round AE86 / AW11 connectors. I'm not sure a...

I'm also in the Tampa Bay area of FL. But I don't have much experience with this kind of diagnosis (and I don't have an AE86).

Also of note is that the RWD oil pan is different than the FWD oil pans. It has grooves in the bottom of the lowest part of the pan, running front to rear (looking at the timing belt side of engine), whereas the FWD pan does not.

I'm at work and I don't have sound. I am seriously curious about the role of all that epoxy there? He used it to fill in between the runners so that it's solid in between the smallport intake runner openings. You can see on it where the bigport gasket was sitting, and the ports were partially block...

I got mine from Lithia Toyota back when there was someone there (Aaron maybe?) who would be able to order parts from Toyota Japan. I also had a coupon code, around this time of year, so I got them for a bit less.

Re: OST-044: What the "F"?
Very nice! It will be interesting to see how the modified 7A-FE does. Whenever I push my CAT around, it seems that the poor thing can't breathe at all through those dinky intake ports and long-runner (early 4A-FE) intake manifold. Without yet having a 4A-GE, I can understand the benefits of using a ...

9A-FE?? The fact that the rods are MRP makes me think of their stroker kits.
Forged GE pistons, or custom FE ones?
Never knew the Euro cam was different. There was also a nicer FE exhaust manifold, UK or Euro. If I recall correctly you got one for your built-up 4A-FE.

Re: 500+ hp on stock bluetop cams?
Thanks for posting about this. I haven't yet built an engine, but I've set ~300 HP at the wheels (AWD) as my goal. So far the only cams I've really considered are the matched 256 Cat Cams that OST recommended to me a while ago. Paired with OST's headwork, I think that would be sufficient, especially...

Gotcha  I don't think I've reached blackbelt status quite yet, though :? The Honda side of things is much easier because so much has already been done, it comes down to either riding on the shoulders of someone else (like me buying that engine and using the tune for it) or following along with...

Makes me think that it's worth disassembling and inspecting a brand new Aisin oil pump, if one is being used for a build, to make sure there are no issues like this. I think there was some talk here previously about Aisin (OEM manufacturer) vs Toyota oil pumps.

You can buy seal kits to replace that inner seal. I think Matrix Garage has a set, and there's at least one other brand out there too.

Why not get a set of rods for the 42mm crank? I imagine it's more worth keeping the 42mm crank as-is than modifying it. If you're interested, I have a set of 42mm rods with ARP rod bolts I want to get rid of. They will need reconditioning, as the lackwit I bought them from (someone here) didn't ship...

Interesting. Is it advantageous to have the ex valves like that? What (or who) is this head for, if I may ask? I was thinking that it's a lot of work for an "economy" head, but a good experiment regardless. Like the early 4A-FE head you worked on for your CAT sedan. (I still hope you decid...

We never had 4A-GE powered Celicas in the US. I guess the OP is in Europe? I was thinking someone swapped a 4A-GE into a Celica (if this was in the US). Which wouldn't make sense since someone would be better off with a 3S-GE (stock vs stock).

The coolant pipe on the distributor makes me think it's an FX engine. I don't know about the EGR, MAP or AFM differences, though.

You could always keep the parts as spares, especially if they're in good shape. I agree with the notion of getting a complete engine. I made the same mistake when I started out, I bought a disassembled 4A-GE out of an AE86. I ended up not being able to use any of the parts since my wagon has a FWD e...
