December 2013

Taking the money from the sell of Sebring, I intended to get the Corolla back into DD status. First order of business was a tune up and ripping off the useless emissions crap. http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj294/spiffy1379/Ariel/2013-12-21110341_zps320fb258.jpg http://i275.photobucket.com/album...

Re: Celica ST 1991 rebuild + 4AGE swap

You´re right, thank you for reminding me ;) Distributor shaft has to be slightly modified to clear the ARP head stud. However, I´m going to use distributor with stock ecu just for brake in time. After that I´ll switch to DLI setup with coils and fully programmable stand alone ecu with agressive map...

Re: Celica ST 1991 rebuild + 4AGE swap

I'm sure if you're aware, but the ARP stud on the exhaust side, number 1, will interfere with the stock distributor in the head. The ARP stud is longer than the OEM headbolts and will catch on the end of the distributor shaft. Be cautious about that and take appropriate measures.

Yeah, she's been in a kind of downhill slump. The last 2.5 months have been full of ups & downs but I need to take a break from obsessing over her.

Re: Ariel's Story - A tale of a Utah Corolla

July 2013 The tags on the Corolla expired at the end of June, so I had sought out other transportation as devoting time & money to Ariel seemed like a bad idea. I ended up picking up two very different, crappy cars as potential DDs: A 1993 Hyundai Excel, and a 2001 Chrysler Sebring Convertible. ...

Re: Ariel's Story - A tale of a Utah Corolla

Man, it has been a long, long time since I updated this. The last update was back in April of 2013. I dyno’d the car and put down a (respectable for a mostly stock Corolla) 105.5 rwhp & 93.8 ft-lbs of torque. After that, I continued to daily drive Ariel with very little fuss (lolz, yeah right!)....

Re: manual steering rack rebuild?

Still haven't done anything about figuring out the vibrating steering wheel. Too busy doing a fluid change & taking it to a dyno day. I think I should take care of the leaking input shaft on the transmission before I worry about the steering. I'd hate to burn up the trans.

Re: manual steering rack rebuild?

Wheel bearings were replaced back at the beginning of November 2012. Both inner & outer tie rods were replaced when I did those ~2 years ago. When I had the car up on stands and my dad was shaking the wheel, I looked for play, with the dust boot removed, in the inner tie rods. I did not see any ...

manual steering rack rebuild?

My steering wheel vibrates a most speeds and it's bugging the hell out of me. The last time I changed the front tires, I shook each wheel to see if there was any play. Both sides had play, about 1-2cm, in the forward-backwards direction (place hands at 3 O'clock & 9 O'clock and shake the wheel)....

Re: How to remove rear tow hooks and where to buy tow hooks.

a friend of mine had told me that if they were ever pushed forward of the vehicle the corollas done. He probably said something like that because it'd be difficult to get an insurance company to pay out a "fair" amount for our cars, so if something happened, they'd likely total it out. Bu...

Re: upgrading stock brakes?

SS lines aren't hard at all to install. Use a line wrench to take off the old lines and route the new lines exactly how the old ones were routed. Make sure you have something to catch the brake fluid that will spill out when you take off the lines. The hardest line to install is the line from the ch...

Re: Ariel's Story - A tale of a Utah Corolla

Thanks! I've never "properly" fixed the fender. I just took it off and tried to bend it back into shape. Every now and again, I have to pull/pry on it to keep it from catching on the door. Ideally, I'll replace it in the future, but it's just not a priority right now. My autocross setup wa...

November 21, 2012 I picked up a 90ish Honda Accord front lip at the junkyard a few weeks ago. Finally mounted it up. I had to trim about 8 inches out from the center of it as it was too wide.
