Re: Keeping 1600 with a 7afe block
Just a quick question to ask if any one has increased the rod size in a 7afe block to keep the engine in the 1600 class? Was just talking about the possibility this week, opening out the question. If you are required to stay 1600 because of racing class or any other reason then it's a great way to ...

Re: best place to get a tune for a newly turbod 4age
there is a learning curve to most systems. Lotsa 'tuners' won't step too far outside their comfort zone.... especially if it's some one-off system May not be worth it, for either (time = money) There is definitely a little learning curve but so far I haven't had many questions that I couldn't googl...

Re: best place to get a tune for a newly turbod 4age
Engine managment isn't complicated and one isn't vastly different from another. If someone tells you they are only knowledgeable with one I wouldn't trust them to be knowledgeable at all. It would be like hiring a professional driver to race your car and then them telling you that they could only d...

Re: yoshi - 4agte question
Counsel me here. I have some familiarity with NA upgrades on small block Ford V-8s. I know that I can bore and upgrade pistons, and I know I can set some better cams in place, (a lot of posts here on cams for the NA 4age) and, with a lighter flywheel pick up a lot of the response I'm looking for. A...

Re: yoshi - 4agte question
the single biggest problem with a stock 4AGE is the piston ring lands.... or more accurately the oiling ring land uses a large slit to evacuate oil from the ring. This slit doesn't support the 2nd compression ring as well as a different designed oil land that uses round holes instead of the slit. T...

Just looking for the name of the best shop in California that does the best tunes on boosted 4age. Anyone know any good shops? strongly recommend you also make sure the shop you choose is familiar with tuning the management system you have chosen. It doesn't matter how good they are, if they don't ...

I can't help you on finding a location but I would suggest you learn as much about this and do as much of it as you possible can. The more familiar you are with the system the more self reliant you are. Start having issues with the system 100 miles from home and the much more likely you will be to r...

Re: yoshi - 4agte question
Yes... it is fair to say that there is a big difference between the market for supercharger kits for the new 86, and the market for turbo kits for the AE86. Totally different demographic. One is ripe for bolt-on kits, and the other is more of a DIY and low-budget market. Therefore, making a big inv...

I have an ae82 that I'd like to bump the power on. I've been reading the post on turbos that you put up a year or so ago, along w/comments, particularly by jinx and jondee (I believe that's the first time I've seen him ASK a question.) Jinx referred to a project by neil8586, but I haven't been able...

Re: yoshi - 4agte question
In the 4A world it's more that 98% of the turbo guys will be running used turbos. They will pick something up for $150 to $250 at the junk yard or on ebay and will want to design their system around that. Some actually choose their turbo around what flange options I offer but most already have a tur...

Personally I believe FIPG is the absolute best and most reliable way to seal an oil pan. And most other components for that matter.
These little things make a huge difference though.

I think I have found a source for a reasonably decent quality manifold that is manufactured overseas. I can also get CXracing stuff for a small discount. Re: yoshi - 4agte question
The two big things are demand and budget. I sell about three bottom mount manifolds a year. I keep thinking about taking them off the site because I make them so rarely every one is kind of a learning process all over again and a bit of a PITA but instead I just bumped the price up a bit. If I could...

Hello, I recently got a 4age 20v blacktop engine to put in my corolla e11, im not sure of the condition of the engine so I want to rebuild it first before swapping it in. Re: Tips for first rebuild of bluetop.
The only 4A 'build' I've done was nothing more than having a bluetop crank turned 010/010(or .25/.25). Left the bores untouched since ther was no wear ridge. Also took a chance with the oe rods, as the bearings were barely showing copper. Put it back together, new gasket.... ran flawless and lasted...

Re: 7AGE T-vis, keep it or toss it?
If properly sized and tuned TVIS would benefit a 7A just as much as a 4A. So I think the question becomes whether the TVIS you plan to use is close enough to optimal to give you a more desirable power curve than an alternative. If we were to go simple and say keep the TVIS mani then I would definite...

Re: Tips for first rebuild of bluetop.
how much is the bluetop 'rebuild' gonna cost ? ....probably more than a gze swap (if u can still find one)? Likely true but with one you end up with a rebuilt motor and the other you are installing a 20-30 year old motor with unknown miles, unknown condition with a supercharger that can't be rebuil...

I think there are still a similar percentage of people boosting their 4AGEs. It's just that the percentage of people posting to forums has dropped so much over the last 5 years that you will see a lot less performance builds or interesting threads in general. If you subscribe to a lot of the faceboo...

Mid 250 degree with up to 8.5mm lift. It's a budget build so good used cam/s are welcome. personally I wouldn't waste my time with something so small. With the right build and tune you shouldn't loose any significant low end with a good 260s cam or smaller 270s like my 272. It does depend on your b...

Re: 4age oversized valves replacement
O/S valves are only half the story.... you'll need O/S seats installed into your head so you can accommodate O/S valves. Ferrea, Supertech, and SI Valve (likely a few others) all carry an O/S 4AGE valve, a set is usually under $300 Supertech recommends running the stock seats. Don't ask me how this...
