That's made me smile, once I've finished putting the 4age into my Starlet, I'll be starting to put one in my mates MK2 Cortina also.
His is a 2 door super in white.

I think the stat has a hole in it as the unit is made from alloy with just a inlet and outlet.
Thanks again Jondee, you've been great with the info and very forthcoming [emoji106]

Thermostat opening temps ?
I'm looking at buying a remote thermostat unit, it comes with the options of thermostat opening temps, 74/88/92 Degrees C. Was going to go for the 88 option ? The unit it supposed to be installed in the line of the top hose, which I think is the outlet on the 4AGE. The engine is in a KP60 starlet so...

Re: RWD 4age exhaust manifold required (LOCATED IN THE UK)
Not really as it's still a FWD set up although the engine and gearbox are in the middle of the car.
Need the manifold to exit along the side of the block, not down and under.

Kp60 starlet with T50 gearbox
Thanks, had a proper measure up today, it's going to be taken to a specialist.
Needs welding and therefore balancing.
I only presumed it was a AE86 gearbox and prop shaft end. It actually came out if a kit car !
What other Toyotas would run this RWD gearbox then ? Just curious that's all.

Re: Bigport build advice
Are you in the UK ?
I bought a 0.5mm TRD head gasket for my big port. Had to get the block skimmed so unfortunately I couldn't use such a thin HG.
Could be perfect for your build, it's still new in the packet.

Kp60 starlet with T50 gearbox
Getting stuck in with my engine conversion. Got the 4age engine and T50 gearbox in, only taken rough measurements but the original starlet prop shaft looks like it's the right length. I just need to get the right splined part onto it, anyone done this before, was hoping not to have to get it welded ...

Re: Do's and Dont's on installing metal HG
It seems my calculations were a bit wrong, taking on advice about the piston head clearances my squish is far to small. Had the block skimmed a bit further, the piston crown that will be in the squish zone now sticks out 0.25 MM I'm now using a stock head gasket so will have a safe squish gap. Thank...

Re: Do's and Dont's on installing metal HG
Thanks, I'd thought the headless engine sitting on the table pic with all its dirt dropping potential was a joke, are you working with an apprentice/gofer after hours? The engine is totally clean and dry with no "dirt dropping potential" and no gofers were present, there's only 4 members ...

Re: Do's and Dont's on installing metal HG
They make bespoke tooling and high end automotive parts. They don't normally skim heads and blocks as like you say it's hard wearing on the wheels, I've known them for years. Only downside is you don't know how much material has been removed, it's guesswork guided by experience. I've never had an is...

Re: Do's and Dont's on installing metal HG
That surface finish is no where near smooth enough for an MLS gasket in my opinion, it might hold for a little while but it could be so much better. The finish you need to get to is almost like a mirror finish, how yours is currently is quite coarse. MLS gaskets are coated anyway, they don't need a...

Re: Do's and Dont's on installing metal HG
Was planning on using the original head bolts, the engine was totally original, not been apart before and came from a running AE82 Corolla with 82,000 miles.
Thanks for the advise, I'll look to source a 20v sandwich plate to take apart.

Do's and Dont's on installing metal HG
My TRD head gasket arrived today, its a 0.5mm item. I've done some research on fitting it and a lot of folk in the USA and OZ seem top talk about spraying the mating surfaces with copper grease ! Anyone able to explain the reasons for doing this ? I was all set to just place it all together but want...

KP Starlet 4age build
Been using the site loads for references, thought it was about time I joined up and posted. I bought my 1984 Starlet on whim, just stumbled across it whilst at a body shop looking at my mates MK2 Cortina. The Starlet was rotten in all the usual spots but mostly all there. Mechanics were all stock 1l...
