Re: My AE86. SR5 to GTS, and other little things.
I did it myself. O'Reilly has a compression tester rental tool. What you do is take out a spark plug and thread the compression tester in there. A "Dry non-running" compression test on a brand new engine is normally around 120. You crank it for only ~2 seconds, then check to see what you g...

Re: My AE86. SR5 to GTS, and other little things.
I'm still working out the details. Essentially you get a few different AN adapters. M18x1.5 to a -10 or -8 AN. Then get some stainless lines, and run it to an oil filter adapter plate. I'm using an Earl's adapter plate for a 4AFE that has two 3/8" threaded ports. Uses the same oil filter, so it...

16V Valve Spring Upgrade?
I'm going in to replace some valve seals and was wondering if it would be worthwhile to upgrade the springs and retainers while I'm in there (25 years could wear out them springs). Stock cams, stock motor. Thanks guys!

Re: My AE86. SR5 to GTS, and other little things.
Started a job at a shop, and whenever it's slow I've been pulling my corolla in. It's been on DD duty for 3 weeks now. So far we've fixed... output shaft seal exhaust leaks exhaust gaskets F+R brakes F wheel bearings Replaced brake master cylinder welded on a new muffler. I started my car one day an...

I'm an emissions tech here in Utah. Not a glorious job, but it pays alright.
If you don't have all of the emissions devices in place, you will get marked for "tampered", but as long as it passes the sniffer test you should be fine.

I will tell you once more... check the grounds. I know for a fact that the injectors ground at the intake manifold. I practically have the wiring diagrams memorized from when I was chasing down issues with my SR5 to GTS swap.

rode in this car the other day. Steering is tight, car drives/tracks straight, vehicle does not shake, but the steering wheel shakes violently. It's weird.

oxygen sensor MAYBE, make sure the intake tube from the AFM to the manifold is good (no loose clamps or anything), and make sure the injectors are grounded well (brown wires that bolt onto the intake mani). o2 sensor is new, no vacuum leaks either.. I ran a smoke test on it already. And all points ...

Re: Overpriced AE86'S?
I think I put a total of $50 to get it running, and another $200 in tires. Like I said, $3k better buy you a damn good corolla. A friend of mine spend $3500 on her corolla, and it is MINT. Fresh paint, fully loaded, already got coilovers, whiteline everything possible, exhaust, and a rebuilt motor. ...

Re: Overpriced AE86'S?
I've never payed more than $300 for an 86. One of them was a GTS shell, the other was a non-running SR5 lol. If you're paying $3k for an ae86, it better be pretty DAMN clean or you live in California.

Re: Heater core solutions?
It's not going to fit perfect, but it'll be better than nothing. The 86 FX heater core fits in the slot (you have to fight it a little bit to get it in), the blendoors will open all the way, but one of the heater lines faces the wrong way.

Re: Best engine for daily driving and drifting with power.
I have 2 86s. Parts are not difficult to source, just drift tax is more expensive on 86 parts than on something like a 240. The added wheelbase of a 240 makes it more stable/easier to drift. But learning in an 86 is one of the best things to do, or so they say.

Re: Brake lines will not fill with fluid
I bench bled my master cylinder in like 30 minutes. Suuupper easy. unbolt it, pull it out, fill with brake fluid, get a mc bleeder kit from oreilly for like $7, run the lines into the reservoir then push the piston in all the way a few times. I was able to do it with my bare hands, no vice/bench nec...

Re: My AE86. SR5 to GTS, and other little things.
I did something stupid. I wanted a GTS rear end, and found one for $500. Not quite what I have just lying aroudn to spend on car parts. But once again, my friend Will stepped in to help me out. He talked the dude down to $250, and it happens to have a car attached to it. http://i6.photobucket.com/al...
