Re: OST-050 - A VERY special build

Thanks for the info about the VC colors. I was hoping to "restore" a set for a wall display I want to do in my house, and was hoping that I could get the correct or "close enough!" main color at a powder coater. I'll probably have more trouble trying to match that early 16v blue ...

Re: AE86 Lower rubber radiator mounts

I know it's not quite the same setup, but when I fit a Honda Civic "half size" aluminum radiator into my AE95 I had temporarily used one of these (or another size, I forget) on the Civic rad mount that I had to add. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt-3-4-in-Off-White-Rubber-Leg-Tips-4-pe...

...wrong forum section? ;)

Doesn't the FX16 come with a C series FWD trans? What about a Blacktop 6 speed? I don't know anything about the C series, like the gearing for that 6 speed. Just throwing that out there.

I've always thought of the valve covers being a sort of champagne silver. A slight gold tone to the silver. At least based on the few OEM painted VCs I have.

Re: OST-050 - A VERY special build

I see 1-3 rod caps have been shaved a bit, and the 1 & 4 thinner counterweights have new holes. Everything is so clean, it's hard to tell which of the larger counterweights has new balancing. Is that an optical illusion, or are those domes coated? I guess it's the rougher surface not reflecting ...

For the flexplate and such, there's also the 1989-1992 Geo Prizm GSi trim level, all which had a 4A-GE, and some had an automatic tranny.

Ceramic coating? If so, that should help the block shed heat. I made the mistake of bringing a block to a local machine shop just for cleaning & inspection to make sure it was usable. I asked for it to be cleaned, and checked, but not painted... and got it back painted black. I wouldn't have min...

Re: Factory high comp pistons for aw11 4age

13103-16030 are the 10:1 oversize cast pistons with 18mm wrist pin (Singapore & some Euro market). This was just posted in OST's most recent engine rebuild & head porting topic. There is no Toyota 4A-GE 10.3:1 piston with 18mm wrist pin. I guess 10:1 would be "high enough" ;)

Are those stock rods with press-fit 18mm wrist pins? I can't remember if those 10:1 pistons had 18mm or 20mm pins.

Re: Rear axle hub diameter

I threw this together in AutoCAD today. I wasn't sure of the diameter for the lug studs, which seems to be about 14.22mm. Edit: updated the image. The red represents what my modified hub would be like. Since the thickness of the hubs are about the same, and from what Jondee said earlier, I don't hav...

Re: Radio wiring help....

That sounds familiar about the blue wire on the stereo harness. It's been a while since I messed with my wagon's stereo, but I seem to recall using a wire off the stereo to tell an amp to turn on. About the reverse harness, I think for some of those the wires will be labeled with text like "rig...

Would something like this help? A "reverse" radio harness, I had to get one for one car I'm working on. Someone hacked up the radio harness and I didn't want to worry about what wire was what.

Re: Rear axle hub diameter

OK thanks! As aside, there's one thing I wish the AE95 had, the larger GTS rear wheel bearings. AE95 uses the thinner SR5 type bearings. Someone posted pics of an Audi A4 AWD, with 130mm diameter rear hubs. Although they looked thicker than 3/8", there's only about 3mm from the stud to the edge...

Thanks again Jon... I just measured my AE95 hubs and they are just about the same. I can't seem to find my metric calipers, but my SAE calipers measured just under 0.375". Edit: found my metrics, and measured about 10.2mm...? Measured the same spot. Maybe one or the other is out of spec. But co...

Thank you Jon! Always a font of information  For anyone who might need to know in the future, I measured appx. 14.5cm for the diameter of the AE95 rear axle hub. Rear axle hub diameter

I need to know what the rear axle hub diameter is for a GTS axle. OEM would be better, but aftermarket like Weir would be nice to know too if they're different. Edit: if anyone also has the MA46/47 Celica rear hub diameter, that would be great. I mean that I need the diameter of the face of the hub....

That same plug is also used in the AE101 4A-FE. If you can find a pick & pull with some 93-97 Corollas, you should be able to grab one. Might be a little work to get at, being behind the alternator.

I checked valve protrusion through the retainer, I have .025" on the exhaust side, and .030"+ on the intake side... so that concern is no longer a concern..... Did you have to use Bigport (or Mercedes?) keepers? Was this customer also using used OEM valves, or Supertech valves? I'm still ...

I'm guessing the low comp block has a square pan, while 20v pans have a notch... so you can't just reuse that square pan with the drain. I agree that I would run the drain. I have a 1997 4A-FE block that I was going to use for a 4A-GE build (need the notched oil pan area for my All-Trac transfer cas...
