Re: AE86 Issues :(

For the dash light issue. You may have a loose connector on the back of the headlight switch. I had the same problem in mine, and would have to reach inside the dash to push the connector back on every so often.

Re: Bought this recently

Noise and vibrations will be pretty noticeable. Harsh though ... not directly from the 4 links, it depends on the springs and shocks you are running with. Rubber and Urethane bushings are for all intent and purpose springs, urethane just has a higher spring rate. They absorb deflection. Since the li...

Re: Help ID why car (4AC) wont start (Video included)

That is sort of the gist. You will want to get the crank cleaned, and the journals polished on any crank you use for a rebuild. You could have the crank balanced at the same time, but that is not strictly necessary. Most of the time you could actually just have the crank polished, but I can almost g...

Re: Help ID why car (4AC) wont start (Video included)

I disagree with the guys saying not to rebuild this motor. The 4AC is an economy motor, and has no real power, but for a novice ... rebuilding a 4AC would be very educational, and it will not break the bank in the process. I would not bother with that crank though. Get a used one that is in good sha...

It is seriously not that hard to do all of that stuff. The attorney should be around $500-1000.

I have only ever seen this done once, and it was custom made. If you can not do it yourself, you could always get a cabinet maker to do it for you.

Re: Shipping Cars into the States

I should have stated that Import Export Attorneys can usually get things cleared to be released in a matter of hours, where it can take an individual days or weeks to get the same response.

Re: Shipping Cars into the States

The laws and regulations are really tricky for importing and exporting things like cars and engines into the United States. There are special courts that review the legal documentation etc, and it can take months. Your best bet is to go through an Import Export Attorney. The fees vary from attorney ...

Re: Help ID why car (4AC) wont start (Video included)

It the battery is dead then jumping it might not work. You can try holding the other car at 4-5k RPM and crank the corolla, but the easiest thing to do is just take the battery from what ever car you are using to jump it with an stick it in the corolla to see if it turns over.

Re: Mark III supra intermediate shaft

That is actually super cheap given the level of machine work that an intermediate shaft takes. They used to be twice this from Toyota when you could still buy them. You should not discount the hours it sometimes takes to remove one from an old column either.

Do yourself a huge favor. Save up and have it media blasted and etch primed. You will never get all of that rust I spy in the trunk out otherwise.

Re: Toyotoa FT-1 what Do you guys think?

Those are some massive brake ducts on the rear. I guess they could be used for cooling the differential too, but it is going to kill most of the desired effect of the rear diffuser. This thing has definitely only seen the designer department. First thing the engineers do if they ever get a hold of i...

That thing is in really rough shape ... but they said that they need it gone by the 17th of February, so you might be able to "just take care of it" for them shortly before the 17th.

Re: The greater search for knowledge

totta crolla had some really good advice, so I will not repeat that ... here is the rest of my .02 though. I started in at a similar place in the mid 90's with Hondas. It took a combination of books, car meets (pick out the people that have built multiple cars), and a completely failed strip and reb...

The only difference is the filler neck is one piece instead of bolt on like the stock parts ... which is actually a good thing.

Sounds like a vacuum leak to me.

Easiest motor to drop in would be another 16 valve 4A-GE. Motor plus trans is roughly 1200 from an importer.
