Re: Anyone build a 4AG 16v with the Brian Crower stroker kit?
Key phrase, "Safe and regulated environment". I'm all for that! Problem is, most don't bother with a safe and regulated environment. That's the sad part that unfortunately kills it for the rest. Big reason the question of "what are your plans with this engine" is important. I do ...

Re: Anyone build a 4AG 16v with the Brian Crower stroker kit?
A lot of people think the displacement gained by stroking the 4AGE is where the "power" comes from. In reality the power doesn't really increase with the stroke as much as people think, it's the torque. Look at the torque/power of a stock 4AGE, 98/115 (U.S.) And the 7AFE 115/115 (U.S.) Wit...

Re: Anyone build a 4AG 16v with the Brian Crower stroker kit?
So, the answer that needs to be asked, after jondee's comment, is, "what do you plan to do with this engine?" For street and anything less than full on racing I'd still go with the 7AGE. I've done a lot with the 7A and found the minimum for a good build is rods, forged pistons and a good g...

Re: Anyone build a 4AG 16v with the Brian Crower stroker kit?
Looked at it and decided to go 7AGE. Why stop at an 83mm stroke? The 7AGE gives an 85.5 stroke. With the 83mm bore you get 1850cc, with the 83mm stroke you get 1795cc. Not that 50cc is all that much, you get it from a longer stroke which means more torque. The 7AGE has proven itself time and again. ...

Re: Revs cut, backfires on 15° normal mode, 20° is ok
Yep, verify TDC on #1 cylinder AND in the distributor. If it's not right the ECU will think #2 or #4 cylinder is #1 and that can throw things off. Then there are issues with the igniter and Ne and Ge sensors. If the ignitor is going out it won't send the proper signal to the ECU. If the pick-up coil...

Oh yeah! But those were turbo. Wish I could have any of those here, legally. Living in California makes me worry they're going to come for my I.C. engines, right after they get all the guns.

Extrude hone small port mani
Alrighty then, going to ship out this small port manifold to be extrude honed. Expensive process, but let's see if it's worth it. Going to go all the way and have the mani pushed out to match the gasket. See how much of a difference it makes. The head already has some work so I'll start from there w...

Re: 2TB intake set-up
I live in California. I want to keep the stock components for appearance sake. For the emissions test I can swap out the intake in a few minutes but I don't want to mess with the exhaust every two years. Otherwise I'd just swap in one of my 7AGEs.

2TG or stock 2TX tri-Y exhaust.
Looking for a tri-Y exhaust from a 2TC/B/G, the exhaust in my Corolla is the worst iteration. So I'm looking for the tri-Y cast mani and the down pipe.

Re: 4A-GE bigport rebuild questions
Don't get me started on the 7AGE! It's where I go for a more "user friendly" GE engine. If you(Grant) were curious about the 7AGE, think about the 4AGE with it's stock 115hp and 98ftlb torque and with a 7AGE using the 9.4 comp 4AGE pistons, stock head and cams getting closer to 120hp and 1...

Re: 4A-GE bigport rebuild questions
All depends on what you are looking to get out of this engine. The PonCams are good for sure, but I've kicked down on my cams for a more "friendly" in town drive-a-bility. Seems everybody wants to scream their engine everywhere they go.

Re: 4A-GE bigport rebuild questions
GZE pistons are low comp. You'd be better with some high comp pistons, but those are 20mm pins. There are a set of OEM 10-1 ratio 18mm pistons. Someone here has the part#, maybe OST. Might try messaging him. Of course the Wisco isn't too much more and a bit lighter. With the chart above keep in mind...

Re: 4A-GE bigport rebuild questions
I've run the stock 40mm rods at 8500 RPM without issue. At that level the block tends to be the weak link. So stock parameters are good. Honestly, my favorite build is the light weight 40mm crank and rods with a light flywheel. The engine is so much more responsive. Do a little clean-up in the ports...

Re: 4A-GE bigport rebuild questions
If you don't mind adding a bit to your build budget Molnar makes a set of rods that fit the 40mm rod journal with the full float 20mm pins. Since you're going with those cams the compression bump you get with the high comp pistons would be better, or even some forged pieces. If you're not looking fo...

You want a better breathing engine? Try "Breath Right" strips. Maybe a puff of Albuterol.

Note on 2TG. bore 85mm stroke 70mm intake valve 43mm exhaust valve 37 compression 10-1 ( best recollection ) I never got into modding the 2TG, But the 18RG was a different story. The 2TG was good for 200+ hp N/A, not that I ever tried to get it there. I have a friend that likes the 2TC (the little H...

Re: TVIS inlet
2 valve heads have been known for better torque numbers than 4 valve. 4 valve heads are better at the hp numbers. The 2TG was a beast for it's days. What is not seen in the specs above is the flatter torque curve. Off the line acceleration was better from the 2TG than the 4AGE. I do miss those engin...

Re: TVIS inlet
A little off center here. I looked at the manifold from a Protege' 5 and thought, this was what Toyota described in the neginnning desing phase. I did a little comparison in the port alignment to see if it were a worth while project, but the ports were too far off on ports 1 and 4. Any way, this man...

Re: TVIS inlet
Was that build here or MR2OC? I would fill in the valley on the bottom/back of the runners and flatten the floor between the runners and keep the top appearing stock, for here in Cali. For elsewhere, fill the top in as well and do the whole 'oval' in the runner. Too much work. I would be interesting...

Re: TVIS inlet
I think you could get 200hp with the big port manifold with just a LOT of work. Basically turn those parallel, round ports into one oval port. Lots of cutting and welding. Could be a project for a stealth mod in Cali. would not be worth it though.
