What ECU pinouts to delete? (Megasquirt w/ custom Harness)
Just wondering if anyone knows what pins, if any can be removed from the ECU pinouts completely when building a custom wiring harness for the engine only? About to tackle a custom wire-tucked setup and want to eliminate everything that I can and relocate things like the coil and fuse box. Any help, ...

Re: Longest. Buildup. Ever.
Another beautiful day here in Texas, great weather for working on the ole 86. Here's your daily update for the week. Took the waterpump off to see if It would still spin freely after the whole water line debacle. Doesn't seem to be broken in any way, win! http://i.imgur.com/P9Pnzjkl.jpg Decided to c...

Re: Longest. Buildup. Ever.
Finally stopped raining enough to get some things accomplished this weekend. I went and picked up a Heli-coil kit and got the cam cap bolt fixed. I was quite nervous but everything worked out really well. Got the T3 TVIS delete installed, however, I forgot to use the new bolts I got from Toyota. I'l...

Got a few things done today before I hit a stopping point. Here's a shot of the MRP 7AGE/4AGE crank sprocket. I got this installed today and ready to go. http://i.imgur.com/aFWvmgKl.jpg Here's a picture of it installed and what I think is the TDC mark, it's the only one I could find on the sprocket ...

Re: Longest. Buildup. Ever.
Thanks Toy86! To answer your questions, I ordered all my 7age conversion parts from http://www.mrpltd.co.nz/browse/118_246/7age-conversion-parts.html their parts are very nice and with the NZ to USD conversion the pricing is phenomenal (They also use their own stuff on their 900hp 7AGE 20v). I used ...

Re: Longest. Buildup. Ever.
Well I hope everything works out for ya! Been feeling sick so updates are slow, I've got to send off my injectors to get flow tested and refurbished and pick up my fuel rail bolts then things should start flowing again. Got the head bolted on then realized I needed to shave down one of the studs so ...

Thanks Riddleyo, I actually got inspired by your build and went and picked up a parts cleaner like you got! Picked up and assembled the block last weekend, got everything installed and realized my seal kit didn't have a main seal, oil pump seal or oil pump gasket. I also discovered I had put the thr...

Decided to take advantage of this beautiful day to get the 7AFE block tore down and ready for the machine shop. Reading Billzilla's page he said there is no power loss if you're running higher than 260 cams, which I am. I think I'm going to go ahead just delete it.

I figured it out, it was the damn TVIS. I now have the vacuum line unhooked and it no longer does it. i guess I'll eventually be buying the adapter plate from T3 to replace it, thanks for the help everyone.

Ok, installed the new distributor tonight and it fixed the timing jumping issue so it was definitely shot but it did not fix the rattle/knock. I'm ordering a new exhaust gasket right now and will hopefully get it in tomorrow so I can check that. I drove her around the block and she pulled so hard an...

The tensioner pulley is brand new for the timing belt, I took it off earlier in the week and could not get it to make any noise.
I'll do those tests tonight and Sunday and let you guys know what the results are. I appreciate all the replies and hope to get this tracked down soon.

Re: Head/distributor noises (Need some insight) 4AGE 16v
My only other thought is it's possibly the cams being loose in the journals Use some plastigage on the journals and follow the BGB. Is it louder at high RPM? When the rebuild was done how much was taken off the head, block, and what head gasket was used? I will have to read into the plastigage stuf...

Ok, tore down the head yesterday and double checked all valve shim clearances. All were good but one, going to have to borrow a micrometer to swap out the shim. I also pulled all the cam caps and inspected the cams/caps. There was some wear on them but no gouges, I have no idea what they looked like...

Re: Head/distributor noises (Need some insight) 4AGE 16v
I tried doing what you mentioned above and the sound persisted. I'm now getting a loose metal sound, doesn't sound bad or like a knock but like something is loose, I think it's the crank pulley (Which is brand new). So my new guess is it's the crank bolt, I think it's too long and not tightening the...

Ok, I swapped out the water pump and crank pulley this morning and now the timing stays dead on 16/17 degrees then ever 2-3 seconds it jumps 5-10 degrees BTDC. It's still making the noise and it sounds pretty bad, I really hope something isn't blown up since it's a brand new rebuild with 200 miles o...

I did not know this, but I can assure you this is the problem. Re: Head/distributor noises (Need some insight) 4AGE 16v
Could be bearing knock and it sounds like small end bearings. Given that any advancing the timing has made it worse would kind of confirm it. There is one thing that would be worth checking and that is that your crank pulley is not allowing the outer timing ring part to slip on the rubber insulator...

Head/distributor noises (Need some insight) 4AGE 16v
When in between accelerating/decelerating or when I let off the throttle the car would make a very loud ticking/pinging noise and I'm at a loss for what it could possibly be, I'm going to post a bit of backstory on what I've done to troubleshoot so far and what the results were and maybe you can hel...
