Curious about this. I have a new OEM oil pump (smallport part # I believe) that I picked up for my turbo build.

Re: Frankenstein 4A-GE smallport questions

OK, thanks! I'm debating whether to do this. 4A-FE is just so weak. ~30 HP gain would be nice. At least one of my 4A-FE blocks ('97) has the threaded hole for the knock sensor. Not sure about my '88 block. I don't have smallport rods / pistons or 42mm crank. That's part of my problem, I wasn't smart...

Re: valve shims

There are different sizes of the shims for setting proper cam lobe clearances.

What I'm curious about is how long they last and how often the clearances need to be checked. My Honda has me spoiled, with its adjustable jam nuts for setting the valve / cam lobe clearances.

Frankenstein 4A-GE smallport questions

OK, so here's the problem. I've only ever found a smallport 4A-GE once in my area, and that was over a year ago. At the time I didn't want the complete swap so I pulled the head, dizzy, ECU, intake, exhaust, and most of the connectors. But I didn't get the AFM since my plan has always been to go sta...

Needs a nice polycarbonate fastback engine lid to tie it all together. Turns out a lot of people don't like it ascetically lol but fkem. From this and other pics I've seen of your AW11, it looks very Mad Max! I love it :D The polycarbonate engine lid is a cool idea though. It will certainly look in...

Re: NEED HELP ON TURBO MR2 ;[

Geez, seriously, an oil leak in the dizzy killed the engine? I've had that happen with my del Sol which has the ignitor inside the dizzy (it was covered in oil, probably the original dizzy). I thought the ignitor was external for the 3S. Makes me want to go through with doing a dizzy-free / crank se...

Re: Parts and product requests

How about 4A-GE spark plug wire holders that replace the black plastic ones? They could attach to the OEM metal standoff piece by bolting onto it, I suppose. I know there are at least two styles of the wires holder, RWD and MR2. Not sure if the FWD piece is the same (bigport only, as smallport didn'...

7A-FE oil pan capacity?

It must be too late and I'm too tired to be Google searching for info. I can't find what I'm looking for... how much oil does a 7A-FE engine / oil pan hold? More than the 4A-FE and 4A-GE? I'm looking at pics of that crazy two-piece sump, and thinking it must hold more oil. Also how difficult (or eas...

Re: Parts and product requests

Have you considered making thermal intake gaskets for the bigport and smallport? I've seen these out there for other manufacturers and engines. Like a friend of mine has one on his Honda B18. It's supposed to keep the intake (and the air coming into it) cooler since it's not fitted directly to the h...

Want RWD. AW11 vs AE86

I already have two cars, a del Sol and an All-Trac wagon. So I've got FWD and AWD. Been thinking about getting something RWD, and to that, thinking about either an AW11 or an AE86. I see pros and cons for both, with the most notable con (to me anyway) being working in the MR2 engine bay. I've only s...

Re: NST 4AGE / 4AGZE Clear Cam Gear Cover

Thanks for the reply. I did find that these were available in RWD or FWD. Did they make these for FWD / MR2 engines? I don't think there is a difference but I could be wrong. FWD & MR2 upper & middle timing covers have a cut-out for the RH engine mount. AE92s also have an additional square c...

I know someday I'll be contacting you about a turbo manifold for my build. I think we were sending PM back & forth on the previous C4AG forum. Oil pan with more volume might interest me, especially now that I'm doing a turbo build. But I have a transverse setup in my AE95, and not a lot of spare...

Like title says, front and rear disc shields / dust covers / whatever they're called. '90-'91 because those are the years of the upgraded front disc brakes. I don't think the rears changed from '88-'89 to '90-'91. I'd also be interested in AE92 GT-S rear parking brake cables, and possibly both rear ...

Cams are generally one of the last things you will change on a turbo setup and only once you are chasing big numbers. The stock cams will give you quicker turbo spool and better off boost low RPM power than bigger cams will. How about stock early bigport cams on a smallport head, aiming for 250-300...

I need to know the length of the rear soft lines, the one that leads to the axle and the two that run to the disc brakes.
