Re: Valve Stem Seals, I think?

Does the oil itself look fairly clean on the valvetrain and on the dipstick? Or does it resemble the catch can crud? If the oil is filthy, sounds like its time to do an in-situ engine crankcase cleaning. Put a NEW filter on the engine, and change the oil to something like a 10W-40 or 20W-50 and in p...

Re: Valve Stem Seals, I think?

I'd try driving it with the PCV blocked off to see if any affect is made there. Put the valve cover dump into a can or bottle while you drive to catch the contents that come out to see if maybe oil splash and a missing baffle could be part of the cause? Also, that PCV tube sound to be too small, whi...

Also might want to check your PCV valve and hose to make sure you are not pulling oil into the intake through that system.
I have seen a stuck open PCV valve that gives similar symptoms to what you are showing (less the hard cold start).

Re: 4AGZE idle hunt problems

Can you state again what the diameters (and lengths) of the fuel line TO the engine and the return line FROM the pressure regulator are? Also, do they vary in diameters along the runs? Reason is that the fuel pressure should go UP when intake vacuum goes towards atmospheric or above (with hose on va...

If you are cleaning the block, be sure to remove all the plugs before it goes into the marinade, and afterwards high pressure blow out all passages, plus then gun brush the oil galleries until they come out with no residue. Another thing is after you deburr and clean you can paint the inside of the ...

Re: 20v ST redline at startup

Tommy..... To reach redline cold you have to have three things. 1) Fuel to the engine (injectors) 2) Spark to the engine (ignition) 3) Air to the engine (throttle) - a LOT. The engine is basically an air pump. If you restrict airflow, then the engine is starved for the oxygen needed for combustion, ...

Re: stock injector deadtime for 4age 20v silvertop/blacktop injector

If you have access to an oscilloscope, a knock sensor or accelerometer and a variable DC power supply you can measure this yourself. You should really also have fuel pressure against the closed injector to get an accurate reading, as this will influence the opening time. So also have the injector in...

Cooling Fan Circuit on late ST ECU

Have a question about how the cooling fan circuit on the late (89661-1A190) ECU used on 93.5 and up Silvertop Manual trans engines works. The fan switch seems to be a normally "closed" switch which opens above a temperature (~92ºC). It runs through the AC "trinary" pressure/tempe...

Early vs Late 4AGE-20V Silvertop Intake ports

Somewhere on this or maybe another 4AGE forum there was posted a picture of the early (1991 up to 1993.5?) Silvertop intake port face versus the later (post-93.5?) intake manifold port face. There seemed to be a substantial difference in the shape of the ports at the flange IIRC. If anyone here know...

If you are worried about degreaser residue, then go over the sealing areas with a cloth soaked in Brake Cleaner (or use Acetone).
This will clean and dry the surfaces for the FIPG material.

All O2 sensors, whether narrow or wideband, want to have as vertical a mounting as possible so that water cannot collect and freeze in the sensor head.
Mounting this way makes them self-draining.

Just re-pin the connector for one that fits. Any 90's toyota 4 wire O2 will work I am going to disagree with this to a small degree. O2 sensors actually have different heat outputs relative to how close they are to the heat source. An AW11 O2 that is 3' from the head will heat less than an O2 senso...

The two piece aluminum pan with steel sump from a 7AFE engine will definitely fit as well.
Get the pickup for the 7AFE along with the pan as depth is slightly different.

I researched this a while back for a Silvertop into a Lotus Europa.

LP = Large Port

Large Ports were early 4AGEs with the secondary intake tuning plate assembly to cut off one of the runners in the intake manifold.
The Small Port engines did not need this device and dispensed with it.

If you wish to ascertain if the previous owner did a good job (or had done by someone else), then yes, you can use an LC-1 to monitor and record the A/F at the exhaust to see if there are any overly rich or lean spots. Not familiar with a Motorola 8600 microprocessor.

Would that be instead a Motorola 6800 series variant, such as 6801, 6803, 6809, etc?
If so, its similar to what both GM and Chrysler used in the late 80s and early 90s.........
