You can use camber plates with standard diameter springs and spring top hats but you will not get full negative camber adjustment as the large size spring
will foul on the inside of the suspension turret before full adjustment is reached.

Re: Hi comp with ITBs on AEM EMS 4
I have read with interest this thread on using an AEM ems. I too have just installed an AEM and in my case it is a unit originally designed to run a Mitsubishi Evo 8. I have made a jumper harness to go between the AE86 loom and the AEM and I'm using all of the original sensors including the distribu...

I can tell you that the magnetic sensor pickups in the distributor don't much care which way the distributor turns they simply sense the teeth as they pass. There might be an issue with tooth timing though and this would affect the ignition timing throughout the rev range. Are you able to set the id...

Soldering is bad for vibration points? You've got to be kidding me. That whole post is the biggest crock of BS anyone has tried to spoon feed me in a very long time. It should be deleted just for the fact that someone may read it and think it's true. A bit strong a statement this when it seems the ...

Re: Caster alignment question
From my experience with caster it is best set up with fine tuning on the road. A long drawn out process because there are a few variables but essentially any pulling left or right can be tuned out with small caster adjustments. To the op: The biggest change in manual steering weight will be by chang...

Re: Castor alignment question
I have a good method for doing the toe setting A man after my own heart, personally I hate paying someone to do an alignment every time I change something and I too have a method to replicate a good laser alignment that was done years ago. By the way there is a reference to the stock caster arm len...

You will need to get the front re-aligned once you have changed the caster.

Remove the alternator / water pump drive belt and try it again.
It will be ok to run for a few minutes.

Re: AE86: Setting up 4 Links
It is best to tighten the bolts with the full weight of the car on its wheels. The bushing can get trapped when the bolts are tightened and then it has to rotate in its housing when the suspension moves up / down. If it is close to its centre point when the bolts are tightened the rotation amount is...

Distributor
So here's a thing, I'm currently in the process of fitting an AEM ecu to my Corolla and the AEM calls for a 24 tooth crank sensor and a single tooth cam sensor. I want to be able to swap ecu's so I have kept the distributor and I'm using the 24 tooth sensor and I have removed 3 of the cam teeth, lea...

I think the engine will need to come out as there is a very real chance the crank will need to be removed,
certainly if the engine seized on the crank rather than the pistons.

Re: 4age 20v silvertop pistons locked help!
All will be revealed when you remove the sump.
I would say that the piston that is higher than the rest is at the correct height.
Likely the big end bearing shells are completely knackered on the 3 "low" pistons.

Re: Guys running the Quaife QSR...
Ok, so when I twist where the pinion gear goes in, the resistance until it starts moving should only be 6-8in lbs until it starts moving. Yeah mine was way more than that before I put it in, probably a couple foot pounds. To adjust that loosen the tension nut on the back of the rack? Just trying to...

Re: spring and coilover question?
Stiff springs and soft dampers can create a bouncy "springy" car as the rebound rates on the dampers will not be matched to the springs, essentially the springs have too much power over the dampers. Softening the shocks to get a better ride when the springs are too stiff to start with will...

Re: spring and coilover question?
As Nohachi says Use softer springs and tune to suit using your adjustable dampers. Too much body roll using softer springs ? Fit bigger sway bars. I use spring rates that are approximately half what you are using on my tarmac rally car, mindful of the fact that my tyres have no damping and the bodys...

I'm looking for a solution to fit a throttle position sensor to a set of weber 45dcoe's. The problem I have is that there is not enough room to fit the weber tps kit on the end of the throttle shaft because the cylinder head water outlet gets in the way, the only option I can see is to fit the tps o...

Re: Brake lines will not fill with fluid
Be careful of pushing the piston in too far if you are bleeding a used master cylinder. Sometimes the part of the bore that does not get used in normal operation can corrode, pushing the seals past the corrosion can damage them. This also applies when bleeding the brakes, try not to let the pedal go...

The photo above suggests otherwise.
Certainly some of the outer tie rods are different lengths and use the wrong inners and outers together and
you will run out of toe adjustment.
I know as I have just been through this.

Re: inner tie rod difference?
Whilst the physical length is the same the thread length may be different between p/s and non p/s tie rods.
Also watch out for different angles of articulation. Some rods allow more up and down movement, use this type.

As it happens I have just been through the same thing albeit not with a Quaife rack. The first thing I did was to measure the turning torque of the steering with the front wheels off of the ground, this was 34 inch lb I then disconnected the steering column from the rack at the universal joint. re-m...
