Re: rack spacer vs power knuckles

Manual rack with power arms will give you faster steering as well as extra lock, rack spacer is only extra lock. Put both in, best of both worlds.

Re: AE86 exhaust options

Because either they have the car way too low and it physically won't fit, or they're going for the slightly better flow from the exhaust travelling in a straighter path. An over diff exhaust will be fine for almost all setups in a Corolla.

Re: Worthless rear strut bar for the coupe?

Just attaching a bar between the shock towers is not going to offer any huge benefit anyway, the shocks don't carry most of the suspension load and the sheet metal for the shock towers is pretty flimsy and only tacked into the shell. If they were seam welded and plated there would be more of a benef...

Re: Flush fitment for AE86

Too wide a tyre and you won't be able to get enough load onto the tread face to heat it up. Less rubber takes less energy to heat and will warm up faster. Therefore too wide a tyre and you will have less grip than a more suitable size. A 185 or 195 width tyre is perfect for a fast street corolla. I ...

Re: New ROTA Wheels - "DORI DORI"

I've had a pair of Rotas for a year or so on my 86, and they have stood up fine bouncing over ripple strips and pushing hard on some very average road surfaces. Hell, they're even lighter in a 15x8 at 5.5kg each than a friends real Watanabes in 14x7. I've had "legit" $2000 wheels before an...

Re: AE86 Shocks & Springs etc Install HELP!

Un-equal length rear trailing arms is what I meant. Unless you have equal length boxes welded in for the top arms, running rose jointed rear trailing arms is a really bad idea. The rear will just bind and snap oversteer, and stretches and tears the trailing arm mounts off the chassis.

Re: 225s vs 195s

I use Toyo T-1R's all round in 205/50/15 and I have a bit less power than you, I find the grip is excellent and they can be made to slide quite well. Just need a bit of speed and enthusiasm. I rate them really highly for a road tyre.

Re: AE86 Shocks & Springs etc Install HELP!

Depends on the height of the rear springs, I would only ever cut off one of the three(?) sections on the rear bump stops though. Sounds like a reasonable setup though, are you running equal or enequal length t3 rear arms?

Re: fairly pissed and looking for other options

You would really need to reinforce the rear shock mounts upper and lower, they were only designed to take the forces of the damper not the weight of the car. Some people get away with it, but it flexes like crazy and the spot welds will eventually seperate. Also, I fail to see any real advantage in ...

Re: AE86 left and right imbalance question

Solid rear ends with panhard rods like our 86's need to be setup with slightly different preloads on adjustable shocks and spring seats left to right to get the ride height even. An adjustable panhard will only centre the diff side to side, will have no effect on ride height whatsoever. If the rear ...

I wouldn't trust it, steel can become very brittle if it's been super heated like that flywheel obviously has. If you have seen a flywheel come through a bellhousing and trans tunnel when they shatter it isn't pretty...

Thought about using some bellmouth stacks on the end of the carbs? Will really smooth the airflow going in, definitely helps with making power.

Re: Cx Racing Coilovers

They use Neotech dampers and as you say do all the development with valving and spring rates themselves. The money is really in the development and knowledge of setting it up, but the quality of machining is truly fantastic also. A lot of very high level cars in Australia are starting to use them now.

If they come from the same people who make D2, BC and K sport I would steer well clear. No comment from me on strength or materials, but they drive like ****. Re: Polish inlet 4age 20V Blacktop - a yes or a no?

I would avoid going for a polished finish on the intake side, as it allows the fuel to condense and form droplets on the port walls. A slightly rougher surface finish will not allow the fuel to stick by creating small amounts of turbulence in the intake, and such will atomise much better and end up ...

On the 2000cc 7age build, I have had a hand in building a couple of these now so i'll share what we used. 7afe block bored 0.5mm over, with a 1zz crank offset ground. Rods and pistons were custom and really should be with this combination so we could get the longest rod and shortest piston to improv...
