Re: help identifying wire

Oil pressure switch/sender? does your car have an oil pressure gauge? Does your oil light come on when you turn on the ignition? Looks like it was cut off somehow. try to find the other termination.

Re: looking for a good build

First question any one will ask is "What's yer budget?" Second, What are your plans with this engine. And I always ask, what restrictions do you have to adhere to? Like smog restrictions. No sense in building a 300hp turbo engine, if you have to smog the thing. Or a 10,000rpm screamer that...

Re: ae82 build

Suspension is a bit difficult to source for the AE82. Look to Whiteline, Australia, for the bushings and sway bars. BC makes a set of struts that do well enough. Install longer wheel studs/lugs for using spacers, cranking the camber without changing wheel offset will get you polishing the struts. Ev...

Re: Mildy tuned 4a-ge bigport MPG

Took many days of minor adjustments here and there and driving like you WANTED to save gas. Any idea how hard it is to get passed by EVERYBODY? It was a good practice in self control. Lots of discipline. I don't think I'll ever bother again, at least not until I can only get 5 gallons of fuel a month.

Re: Mildy tuned 4a-ge bigport MPG

That sounds decent. Especially with spirited driving! I did a build for economy, 4AGE awhile back. My final combination was 10.7 comp(our mid grade fuel, 89) with the intake cam being a WEB camshaft grind 294, 8.2mm lift and 246* ad/220 @ .050" with an early 4AGE OEM cam on the exhaust. Actuall...

Re: Heinous Rodknock from 1986 Mr2

If you go the shop route get to a well respected 4AG builder. There are some that people will suggest. I can't give you any shops in your area, I'm not familiar. A good shop will cost a pretty penny, but you can be sure of the build. Do be careful of taking references from peeps that don't have 4 ba...

Re: Heinous Rodknock from 1986 Mr2

I'd give 800 for a non running MR2 as long as the body had no rust or major damage. Or RED, I hate red. It would be a great building platform. Most I've paid for an MR2 is 2500. Bad suspension, but good everything else. Gave me a place to put the suspension from my wrecked 2.

Re: Heinous Rodknock from 1986 Mr2

On cams and compression. You live in an "enhanced" smog test area. The way they test these little cars actually takes them beyond normal operating parameters. Cams approaching the 260-270 advertised duration tend to make passing the test on the difficult side. Not saying it can't be done w...

Re: Heinous Rodknock from 1986 Mr2

$2500 is a decent budget. Find out what damage is done and you'll have a better idea of where to start. You're going to get suggestions of what you have to have, some are just personal preferences of other people, some are necessities. Examples being a 7-rib block is a must and a 42mm crank/rod set ...

Re: Heinous Rodknock from 1986 Mr2

Removing the head is for clearance, most jack won't have enough height to allow the whole assembly to slide under the rear of the car. Removing the head would also make it easier to get the engine down with less chance of scratching the engine bay. Would probably be a better way to go for the first ...

Re: Heinous Rodknock from 1986 Mr2

So, where to start? What experience do you have and what tools are at your disposal? And the big Q, what is your budget? Look at $1.2-3k depending on your desired level of build, stock to mild (I'm guessing you'll still want to pass smog) If you want to get crazy with the build the budget gets just ...

Re: 4age running rough, I'm stumped, pls help

Check your electrical connections as well. A loose electrical supply or ground can cause a lot of problems. And, if you didn't know this, the igniter/coil mount/clamp grounds the ignition system. Make sure that it's bolted tightly to the chassis.

Bolt in can be sourced from '80 up 2WD trucks and Celicas/Supras and Coronas. Really easy to source. Stay away from the turbo Supra, that's an 'R' series trans, may not be compatible. Can't say what year the 4X4s started with the 'W' series trans, should be '81 though. If you are interested in a red...

And after all that work would you say it was worth it? Is using the T-vis mani with a small port head, with adapter of course, good on the lower RPM ranges?" Does it do as well as the proper mani on that head? Sorry if it's off subject.

Re: t-vis butterflies

IF, you do decide to go without the T-vis an option is to fill the shaft bores with aluminum based epoxy or weld them closed. Disabling the T-vis will make the car less traffic friendly, but doesn't really hurt if you are driving in a "racing" situation.

All sorts of insulating material out there. If you want to make your own, ceramic and basalt fabric are excellent insulators. Just don't wrap the alternator as it needs air to flow through to cool it.

OST is right, the AE101/111 has the right parts for the 2 piece passenger side shaft. It reduces axle wrap-up and was originally to battle the effects of torque steer.

Re: Crank oil seal wear groove - solutions?

I'd have to look into this, but instead of making a spacer see if the seal will seat deeper into the holder plate. On my 22R I can push the seal past flush to about a 2mm depth. Another option would be to cut a little off the seal housing lip so it will recess into the seal boss. I wouldn't go less ...
