Re: Using eibach ers springs on stock spring perch

The "510 method" is what the Datsun 510 crowd used to do. Basically you cut a hole in the rearend perch that is large enough for a coilover sleeve to slide into and then install the spring on the coilover. It would be a good idea to use a steel coilover sleeve and weld it to the rearend pe...

Re: tire sizing

What Moto said. I'm running 195/50/15 tires on 15X8 zero offset wheels. I had to roll my rear fenders and cut the fender liner tabs off of the front fender to get things to fit without cutting tires. If you want the car to handle well, you're probably going the wrong direction, but you may not care ...

Re: Need engine build advice. New to the 4age power plant.

What MisterJerk said. All the car needs is a freshly rebuilt 4AGE to be a blast to drive. I have plenty of fun on track harassing much faster cars on track. Plus, the feeling of going over a crest or around a corner with your foot flat on the floor is much better than the feeling when you lift. :)

Koni single adjustments actually control compression and rebound at the same time. Their double adjustable shocks/struts have separate controls for compression and rebound.

Re: What kind of LSD unit should I buy?

I started with a TRD 2-way and replaced it with a Tomei T-Traxx. For grip usage (I really don't intentionally drift) the Tomei is a vastly better diff. It was immediately obvious that the car turned much better with the Tomei, as compared to the TRD. The TRD may have been the best thing 30 years ago...

Re: Planning my future suspension....

I've tried running no rear sway bar on the street and didn't like it personally. I could feel the rear axle moving around more when cornering aggressively. To put it differently it felt like it took the rear suspension longer to set up and do it's thing. Same is true on track. It feels like the fro...

Re: Planning my future suspension....

Interesting, Glock. I didn't realize that Tanabe has hollow bars. The cheapest way would probably be to do what the Datsun 510 guys have historically done. You basically cut a hole in the lower spring perch on the rearend and drop a coilover sleeve in there, then use a standard 2.5" spring in p...

Re: Planning my future suspension....

The whiteline bar has four adjustment positions on each side. The positions closer to the end make it softer and the positions away from the end make it stiffer. It's also possible to use a different setting on each side to get something in the middle of a position (I do this on the rear.) I haven't...

Re: Planning my future suspension....

Here's my feedback on having set my car up for autox and also for track. The Godspeed bars are a great design since they are hollow, but unfortunately, they are too soft for serious competition. I really wish someone else made hollow bars, since they are so much lighter than solid bars. What Deuce s...

Re: Looking for more power on my Bluetop 86 Help wanted !

If you aren't very knowledgable about engines, you should probably stick pretty close to stock. As you start modifying things, they tend to increase in complexity and unreliability. This is one of the reasons you see so many swapped cars on CL. What seemed like a great idea turns out to be a bottoml...

Re: Here we go again - Short stroke Koni questions

30 series are made for a spec racing series. They are purposely designed to not be revalved or to be obvious if they have been revalved (they cut the bottom off, revalve and weld it back together.) The damping rate is much too high for our cars. Even at the soft setting, they are too stiff. Another ...

Re: Cost of rebuild ae86 manual rack

The only reason to rebuild is if you have a problem. There really aren't any wear items in the normal sense. What problem are you trying to solve? It's dead simple, though. There are two bearings on the pinion gear, one of which is pressed onto the pinion gear and the other sits in the housing. The ...

Re: 4AGE head rebuild- questions!

You can use pretty much ay steel washer that fits for the spring seat. I've ordered stainless steel shims from Mc Master Carr for this purpose (I left a few in the head when I had it hot tanked and didn't get them back) and they worked fine. If you have one seat left, just measure the inner and oute...

Re: what fluid do i use for my lsd differential rear end

I have a Tomei T-Traxx diff and I use Motul P90. It hooks up well and there is very little low speed chatter. That's the way to go, imo, instead of trying to come up with your own gear oil cocktail.

Unfortunately, Hawk don't make the DTC compound for the Corolla. I recently put a set on my Miata and they are pretty awesome. Re: Here we go again - Short stroke Koni questions

Exactly what Deuce said on spacers. I had Ground Conrtol cut & weld one the set of struts currently on my car with a 40mm cut. When I installed my 8610's, there was a little bit of slop, so I dropped a couple fender washers down the bottom of the case until I was able to remove the slop. With re...

Re: How to find the best dampner setting

"Correctly" is subjective. What conditions do you want to adjust the dampers for? For the road, you probably want to be more on the side of comfort, but on track, you want to tune for more grip. A basic understanding of what the terms mean and what they do may help you to tune for your des...
