Re: 4a block, compression numbers

so using a pressure regulator and the hose from your compression tester, bleed roughly 10 psi into a healthy cylinder and slowly rotate the engine with a large ratchet off the crank pulley. remove all 4 plugs to make rotating the engine effortless. it needs to be quite (no radio, air compressor off ...

Re: 4a block, compression numbers

if you did the test "wet" and the readings stayed the same, compression isn't leaking past the rings my man. you have some unhappy valves. this thread has piqued my curiosity because of what I have previously stated.....that when valves aren't happy, it usually shows up in the form of a mi...

Re: 4a block, compression numbers

usually when a valve/valves are the issue you'll end up with a heavy misfire, but you never know. Just food for thought I guess. Do a a quick leakdown test of that cylinder using a pressure regulator and shop air and let us know.

this thread has peaked my curiosity.

Re: 4a block, compression numbers

there is also the possibility that you have a few buggered valves that aren't seating entirely causing the low compression numbers, right?

Re: Timing belt tension

the time to check belt tension is when engine is hot, that much I can say.

if you moderately tension the belt when all is cold, once the engine is at operating temp, the belt becomes too tight.

tight timing belts = hot timing belts
tight timing belts = unhappy oil pumps and #1 main bearing.

Re: Maximum lift to benefit 4AGE head

walk me through that pic a bit, I cant make sense of it. there are no valve seats installed, (or are there?) and the pocket isn't large enough to accommodate a seat is it? looks like a rough cut before the pocket gets brought "on size" i'm not arguing with you so please lets do our best to...

Re: Maximum lift to benefit 4AGE head

you might go with O/S valves and only minimal porting... to gain port velocity off the shelf oversize valves for this motor are only available in 1.5mm larger intake, and 2mm larger exhaust, making it necessary to install oversize seats in the cylinder head. we already discussed this remember? afte...

larger fuel injectors. 700cc ish

what do you guys recommend for a larger injector? I was looking at 700cc yellowtop DENSO injectors on ebay. Because the seller cannot supply me with injector latency data (deadtimes), I am not interested.

any suggestions?

Re: 4age oversized valves replacement

supertechs oversize valves are 2mm bigger ex. and 1.5mm bigger intake. Regardless of what they say, (been there done that) you most certainly need a larger seat installed to run these valves in a 16v head.

apexi' power fc - usdm 4age

Pretty sure I'm going to end up pulling my hair out getting this ECU firing a USDM 4age, but power FC's are familiar to me (nissan guy) and I know it will be worth the effort. Why are there so many different flavors of 4age, toyota?!! Anyways, USDM 4age injectors are low impedance correct? I'm looki...

Re: FRETTING CORROSION and getting that sprocket off...

sometimes they aren't even worth trying to pull off. if you get to that point cut a groove into the sprocket with a cutoff disk and give it one good whack with a hammer/fat chisel. that will crack the pulley and release its death grip on the crank.

no there is an issue with this particular product. I used their valves, their keepers, their retainers, and their springs. I'm an automotive machinist. I rebuild and machine cylinder heads on a daily basis.

EDIT: and the original poster used all supertech products as well.
