Re: old ignition set up from japan!

I have an old HKS DIS ign system It has instructions for 4age and 7mg I will try to take some pics edit https://i.imgur.com/GwHyMUY.jpg https://i.imgur.com/sDN5SHr.jpg https://i.imgur.com/3CWUhvw.jpg DUDE that's so sick! so it just used the distributor plugs for an ignition signal or does it need a...

Re: old ignition set up from japan!

Both the Nodiz (= no dizzy) and Megajolt eliminate the distributor entirely, but need a 36-1 or 60-2 crank trigger wheel to be installed. Another possibility is Microsquirt (a member of the Megasquirt family) that can use the cam position and rpm triggers that are in the base of your distributor to...

Re: old ignition set up from japan!

That's some old school electronics there... and the website classifies that collection of parts as "Junk" !!!! I would say your chances of getting it to work would be slim, but if you are a gambler you could try :) There are other systems around (Megajolt, Nodiz etc) that you could use. T...

old ignition set up from japan!

so take a look at this I found on a sweet website! https://www.croooober.com/en/item/10209787/Electronics-Accessories/ULTRA-Simultaneous-Ignition-System looks like it plugs into distributor plug somewhere and has what looks like an ignition controll box kind of like an msd. would this work if hooked...

Re: USDM AE86 TACH

ok so i have double checked that it is definitely the correct wire that i used for my tach adapter so now im not sure why it wouldnt work unless the tach is actually bad lol the one thing i havent tried doing is simply putting the tach directly to the msd box without the tach adapter :?: so until i ...

Re: USDM AE86 TACH

IT does look like the idle up and rpm gauge wire look similar so I will look again it just sucks cuz the previous owner cut a lot of those wires haha Sounds like the right wire, you might have to trace it back and see if there are any shorts on it. Even possibly that it could be the wrong wire there...

Re: USDM AE86 TACH

Yes I wired everything just like the picture with the black wire to the violet on the adapter. but did I grab the wrong wire? I used the wire that is black with what looks like brown dots on it? is this not right? On the USDM GTS the tacho gets its signal from the black wire on the igniter. The SR5 ...

Re: USDM AE86 TACH

Thanks guys! Always good help. I just hate my aftermarket rpm gauge and want to get my oem one working. So I'm assuming this msd adapter will work like the oem igniter would in terms of the rpm signal? Should be super simple to set up to my msd box

I DOOOO know that the gts rear end has a bunch of options for gear sets ( I have a 4.77 gear set lying ar...

Definitely do it then and document your findings. I'm sure a lot of people on this board would be interested in your progress with this build. Re: draw through turbo 4age!

the FPR makes sense if you hook it up to the manifold and can have it send more fuel to the carb under boost. Then you wouldn't need EFI and would just have to manually tune the carb and FPR. Here is a nice write up on how the boost reference FPR works. http://fuelab.com/11-boost-reference-fuel-pre...

Re: draw through turbo 4age!

Well first thing I would do would be to get an AFR gauge. Then from there you can see what your fuel requirements would be then tune the carb from there. Since you are not running efi I'd imagine you'd have to run the carbs rich. The problem would be when the turbo kicks in it would probably lean o...

Re: head work or bottom end?

Headwork! Just know the limitations of the bottom end. No sense in building a top end to destroy the bottom end. Typically, the bottom end can handle 9000rpm with the weak link being the oil pump. My current engine is running 8500rpm limiter with a totally stock bottom( yeah it bounces a lot and I ...

Re: head work or bottom end?

With the 272 cams I'd kick the limit to 8500. IF you were to go the other way, block, I'd say put the funds into a 7A block and build a 7AGE. Not as rev happy but the torque increase is worth it. If you were to go this direction a light flywheel and rods will help with the "sluggishness" ...

In the market for a good exhaust header for my 86 GTS, anyone use OBX header does it clear the steering shaft. I hage an obx header and front pipe going to an full hks exhaust on my ae86 now and the header clears the shaft just fine never had anny issues with it. and for the money its not bad either

As mr2mk1hero wrote, by this time (after 25~30years of manufacture) it's really unthinkable to do work on them separately. But okay, for discussion purposes by either/or I would say Head!! yea its a tough one because like you said its silly to go nuts on the head and have stock bottom end lol and vise versa! but I do agree about a nice revvy 4age that screams to 9000 rpm haha
